Zanetti: “An emotional evening but we’re focused on Lazio”

MILAN –  Javier Zanetti spoke to journalists at the Stadio Meazza ahead of tonight’s match between Inter and Lazio. "Yes, I’m feeling emotional," the Nerazzurri skipper admitted. "It’s been a very emotional week. With all the people who care about me here tonight it’s going to be a special evening in San Siro. And hard to keep my emotions in check. I don’t think you can prepare for an occasion like this, hopefully it will be a big party for everyone involved. We’re determined to do well as a team.

"It’s my last competitive match here but maybe there’ll be another one to celebrate. I do feel a lot of emotion, I can’t hide that. It’s been nearly 20 years and I have such a special relationship with the fans. Nobody will ever be able to erase that. But first and foremost we have a game and we have to do everything possible to get the win we need for Europa League qualification.

"Me like Facchetti? Let’s not get carried away… Giacinto is Giacinto. What I can say is that it will be wonderful to remain a part of this family.

"It’s going to be a tough match because I think Lazio are a great team. I’ll be overflowing with emotions tonight, there’s no point hiding what I’m feeling inside. People have been paying me compliments all week and I’d like to thank them all for that. But now we’re focused on Lazio."
