First ever confrontation between an Italian and a Moldovan team in European competitions.  Inter needed to win the UEFA Champions League Group Stage Group D Matchday 3 game against Sheriff, and they did, on Tuesday 19 October 2021 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy.  Inter reaching 4 points.  This is an important victory for Inter because it keeps the race for the qualification alive being -2 points below Sheriff and Real Madrid with 6 points each.

Sheriff Tiraspol failed to become only the third team in the 21st century capable of winning their first three games ever in the Champions League, after Leicester 2016/17 and Malaga 2012/13.

Inter opening the score in the 34th minute. It is forward Edin Dzeko to defeat Sheriff goalkeeper Celeadnic with a left footed shot to the center following a corner conceded by Dumitru Celeadnic.

Sheriff equalizing for the 1-1 in the 52nd minute. It is Sébastien Thill to defeat Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic with a left footed shot to the bottom right corner.

Inter taking the lead again in the 57th minute. It is forward Arturo Vidal to deliver a left footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Edin Dzeko.

Inter rocking big time scoring the third goal in the 67th minute. It is Stefan de Vrij to add this joy to the fans with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The headed assist is by Denzel Dumfries following a corner conceded by Danilo Arboleda Hurtado.

✅ Inter have not found the goal in their last three home games in the Champions League (the last two of the last group stage and the 0-1 against Real Madrid in this edition). She has never previously stayed four home games without scoring in major UEFA competitions.
Sheriff Tiraspol has scored two goals in both games played in this Champions League (2-0 vs Shakthar and 2-1 vs Real Madrid) – the last team capable of scoring at least two goals in their first three games in the European Cup / Champions League was Brøndby IF in 1986.
Inter have won only one of their last nine Champions League games (4N, 4P), and have not achieved success in the last three without scoring (2N, 1P). In addition, the Nerazzurri have remained dry in five of their last seven games in the competition.
