Milito: “I still have a lot to contribute”

MILAN – The appointment was set for 15:00 at Solo Inter, the Nerazzurri store in the heart of Milan in Via Berchet 1. But already by the early morning fans were gathering outside to make sure they wouldn’t miss the chance to see El Principe up close and in person. More than 700 of them, in fact, showed up to meet Diego Milito, who signed autographs and posed for photos.

The striker also stopped to speak to reporters about a number of topics, starting with his fitness. He said: "I’m fine and available for selection but of course it’s up to Mazzarri to pick the team. Whenever I’m called upon I’ll always give my all to help the team. I’ve still got a lot to give in this shirt I love."

The Argentine was then asked about some of his team-mates. "Hernanes? I hope he can make it for Saturday too, he gives us an extra dimension. He brings quality in the middle of the park. Palacio? We have an excellent understanding. The goals will come for us. Could Icardi have a big role to play at Inter in the future? Yes, he could and he can even now. Botta? He’s a very important player."

Speaking of forwards, why have Inter found it so hard to hit the back of the net recently? "Unfortunately this is one of those periods you go through sometimes. We’ll try to score more in the coming games and hopefully we can start on Saturday."

"Some people say I’m past it? I’ll answer them on the pitch. I’m sure I’ve still got a lot to give.

"What are Inter’s targets? We’re just taking things one game at a time. Hopefully we can pick up from where we left off on Sunday. It’s going to be tough in Florence but we’ll give it everything we have."
