MILAN – It was a special evening for Gary Medel as his battling display and selfless toiling for the cause earned him the admiration of the San Siro faithful. Afterwards he was interviewed by Inter Channel about the three points claimed in front of the home supporters.
“I’m really happy for the team,” he said. “We got a great result from a very tough game. We managed to take the lead after 40 minutes through Daniel and I think overall we were better in the first half than in the second.”
What’s it like being the Inter fans’ new idol? “It’s a really nice feeling. They see and appreciate the effort you put in on the pitch and they pay you back with their support.”
It was no less than confirmation of what he’d been told already: that Inter are a special team with special fans: “Ivan Zamorano told me about the amazing support you get in this spectacular stadium. Hopefully I can become an idol for them like he was.”
The Chilean midfielder saved his last thoughts for Osvaldo: “I’m delighted for him. He scored a wonderful goal which set us on our way to victory. Now we have to keep going.”
