Mazzarri: “I saw the right attitude out there”

MILAN – "The only drawback today was not
having shut down the game completely, as we saw at the end. We need to be more
convincing and meaner, and never be satisfied with keeping it 1-0. We did this
in part, but at times we were helped by a bit of luck with the final pass. We
should have tried to close things down completely since one little mistake can
cost you the three points," stated Nerazzurri coach Walter Mazzarri to Sky
Sport Italia at the end of Inter v Torino.

"I want to congratulate Andreolli for how
he played once he came onto the pitch. He trains very hard, which is crucial
for me. It’s fundamental to me to keep my players in a state in which they’re
always raring to go, and I have to thank my staff as well."

"Rolando is having an extraordinary season. I wanted him because I knew him well. This consistency he’s showing is something deserved. He’s progressing with every game. Today he played on the left, and then shifted to the centre. He had to face Cerci, which is a tough task. It wasn’t easy but we saw what a great player he was out there.

"What does Icardi need to improve? He’s a talented player with a clear role. After having been out for so long you can’t expect him to be in top form. I tried to keep him on the pitch as long as possible. But once he’s at 100% he’ll be very useful, as we’ve already seen in these games I’ve played him in.

"I have to tell you I really saw the right attitude out there, with Guarin and Palacio tracking back for Torino’s counterattacks. It would have been horrible to let in a goal from one of them since it took us a bit of time to score. But that’s the right approach and everyone has to have it. When you win you’re content for the entire week.

"It’s too soon to think about the defence next season. Ranocchia has been training hard since the January transfer window closed. Today he went 90 minutes and was fantastic against Immobile. We’ll see what next season brings. We’ll have to see how we finish this season and what place we end up in. These are also things you use to evaluate your squad.

"We had to do a good job recovering the ball straight away, since that’s how you limit their counters. It wasn’t easy keeping Cerci and Immobile under wraps. We were born to suffer [smiling]. Had we scored a second goal we would have been a bit more relaxed."
