“Mancini knows the club well. There’s enthusiasm”

MILAN – Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio gave a brief interview ahead of the Milan derby. He began by speaking about the change in the Inter dugout which has seen Mancini return as Nerazzurri coach: “The first thing you expect when you change coach is increased enthusiasm,” explained Ausilio. “There’s a lot of extras that Mancini brings with him. There’s the fact he knows the club very well, he appreciates the team’s worth, and the fact that he has accepted this challenge shows that he knows he can do well.” “Football is unpredictable,” said Ausilio on the dismissal of Mazzarri. “We thought continuity was the right option and we continue to do so because we had a coach of proven experience and ability. Mazzarri deserved the faith we showed in him. Then the opportunity arose to bring in Mancini, and only someone like him could prompt us to make a change. Now we’re happy to have him with us and we hope to get off on the right footing.” Finally, a word on the transfer market: “Mancini has always had wide players in his sides but, if we’re honest, we’ve decided to take our time. Mancini is convinced the team has quality. In three weeks’ time we’ll meet to see if we need to act, considering our financial situation too. Either way if the coach believes we need to improve the squad, we’ll try to be in a position to do so.”
