Guarin: “On the pitch I give my all for this shirt and the fans”

APPIANO GENTILE – The day after
his contract extension with Inter was announced, Fredy Guarin spoke to Sky
Sport Italia
, explaining: "It was a dream come true for me to know I can
wear this shirt even longer. Palacio celebrated his contract extension with a
goal? I hope I can do the same, for the team and everyone else. But I’m already
happy. However, I’d obviously like a victory for the entire team."

Regarding the idea of
finishing his career at Inter: "You never know. Anything can happen in
football but my decision was to choose Inter. I’m relaxed and want to stay
here. In the two years I’ve been at Inter I’ve learned a lot on a personal
level and as regards the team. You earn things gradually, day by day. Especially
when it comes to people’s faith."

Then the discussion turned to the pitch and what Walter Mazzarri immediately had to say to the players after the loss against Atalanta: "He wasn’t angry with us. We have to kill off these games. We lacked the concentration for the final plays. He was disappointed, just as we were. Why aren’t we killing these games off? In my opinion it came down more to bad luck, since we were creating things and have the right players. I’d be worried if we didn’t have them."

Are there any regrets over points that have been lost along the way? "If we get the chance we can’t ever let the points get away from us. Now there are nine finals left. We have to win until the end and then see where it gets us." And on the Nerazzurri midfield’s long drought without a goal: "Hopefully we can score because it helps the team and makes us very happy to do so. We’re coming close and getting chances, so we have to make it happen. Icardi and I are hitting the woodwork more than anyone? That could be true, but goals and points are what matter."

Finally, a message for all his fans: "What can I promise them? The pitch is the only way I can respond. That’s where I have to give my all for this shirt and the fans who have always believed in me."
