The Serie A match on Sunday, January 19, 2025, between Hellas Verona and Lazio at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium is steeped in emotion. This game marks Hellas Verona’s first under new ownership and failed to secure their first victory of 2025 against their former coach, Marco Baroni. Verona faced another tough defeat at the Bentegodi, suffering a heavy loss to Lazio.
Verona were once again let down by significant defensive mistakes, with Gigot scoring from a header and Dia easily finding the net during a counterattack in the first half. In the second half, Zaccagni capitalized on a defensive error to add to the score. Zanetti’s squad only showed some fight in the last five minutes of the first half, creating three solid opportunities but failing to convert any. Now, Zanetti’s team is gearing up for two crucial away matches against Venezia and Monza. Meanwhile, Lazio celebrates their victory and holds a two-point lead over Juventus.
Lazio got off to a quick start, scoring just two minutes into the match. It was a fantastic early advantage for the Biancocelesti. Samuel Gigot found the net with a close-range header, thanks to a perfect cross from Mattia Zaccagni after Ondrej Duda conceded a corner. The header from the Biancocelesti center made its way past goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò!

Lazio continues to apply pressure, and they find the back of the net again in the 21st minute. Boulaye Dia fires a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner, thanks to an assist from Mattéo Guendouzi. Following a free kick for Verona, the Biancocelesti launch a stunning counterattack! Guendouzi delivers a precise central pass, exploiting a gap in the Gialloblu defense, and Dia, after targeting Tchatchoua, takes a shot at Montipò!

✅ Stats before the game
Following their 2-1 victory in the first leg on September 16, Lazio has the chance to secure wins in both of their Serie A matches against Hellas Verona this season, something they haven’t accomplished since the 2017/18 season. Lazio has been quite dominant, remaining unbeaten in 16 of their last 18 encounters with Hellas Verona in Serie A (10 wins and 6 draws), including the last six matches where they have won three and drawn three. The last time Hellas Verona triumphed over Lazio in the league was on October 24, 2021, when they won 4-1 at home under coach Igor Tudor.
Hellas Verona has not lost in their last three Serie A matches at the Bentegodi against Lazio, with one win and two draws. The last two encounters ended in draws, and the only time these teams have drawn three straight matches at the Scaligeri’s home was between 1975 and 1978.
Hellas Verona has struggled to find the net in four of their last six home league games, including their most recent matches against Milan and Udinese. The last instance of them going scoreless in three consecutive games at the Bentegodi in Serie A was from March to April 2021, with one of those matches being against Lazio.
