Getting to know our players in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It’s time to meet Defender Andrea Barzagli.

Andrea Barzagli was born in Fiesole, Italy on 8th May 1981 and spent his youth career with Rondinella Calcio. He moved to Chievo Verona in 2003 after spells at Pistoiese and Ascoli. He moved to Palermo in 2004 where he spent four years before moving to Germany, to join VfL Wolfsburg where he won the 2008/2009 German Bundesliga before moving on to Juventus in January 2011.

Barzagli won the U-21 European Championship and the Olympic bronze Medal in Athens in 2004. He made his senior team debut on the 17th November 2004 under Marcello Lippi in a friendly against Finland (1-0 win). Barzagli won the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and also took part in Euro 2008 and 2012, and the 2013 Confederations Cup.
