Francesco Pio and Sebastiano Esposito the fourth set of brothers to play in the same match for Italy.

The Esposito brothers Francesco Pio and Sebastiano made history as the first family ever to have three brothers represent Italy at the senior level. They’re actually the fourth set of brothers to play in the same match for Italy, with Filippo and Simone Inzaghi doing so back in 2000.

Younger brother Pio Esposito took the field alongside his older brother Sebastiano in Italy’s starting lineup during their UEFA Nations League matchday 2 victory over Turkey 1 – 4 Italy on Monday, 28 September 2026. The previous time two brothers started together was in 1915, when Aldo and Luigi Cevenini scored every goal in a 3-1 win against Switzerland.

Salvatore, the eldest Esposito brother at 25 years old, plays as a midfielder and earned just one international appearance back in 2022 when Roberto Mancini was in charge.

For 24-year-old Sebastiano Esposito, this was his first time playing for Italy on the international stage. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Pio, who scored in the 4-1 victory, has already made 10 appearances for Italy and netted five goals.

In Serie A, Francesco Pio plays for Inter, while Sebastiano plays for Sassuolo.
