CARPI CHALLENGE

MILAN – On Thursday night, Milan welcome Carpi to the San Siro for what will be the third meeting between the two sides this season.
The last time the two teams met was in the TIM Cup quarter finals in January, and while the Rossoneri ran out 2-1 winners, all eyes at the time were on Lorenzo Pasciuti. That’s because days earlier the Italian had set a record by scoring in each division from Serie D all the way to Serie A with the Carpi jersey.
January’s cup meeting at the San Siro was also a homecoming of sorts for Carpi’s Simone Romagnoli, who has no relation to Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli, but is a former Rossoneri youth sector player. What’s more, Simone was part of the team that lifted the Italian youth cup in 2010.
Simone Romagnoli isn’t the only player meanwhile to have swapped the red and black stripes of Milan for the white and red of Carpi. Brazilian shot-stopper Gabriel enjoyed a very successful spell at Carpi, Cristian Zaccardo made a permanent move there last summer while Milan youth sector product Simone Verdi is on loan at Carpi via Spanish outfit Eibar.
Finally, the first clash between Milan and Carpi this season was in Serie A and came back in December. The match ended goalless and it proved to be Alessio Cerci’s last start for Milan before moving to Genoa in the winter transfer window.
