The European champions, PSG, made their debut in Group B of the Club World Cup by decisively defeating Atletico Madrid. PSG dominated the match with a commanding 4-0 victory at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
PSG struck first when Fabián Ruiz scored from long range in the 19th minute. Just before halftime, PSG extended their lead when a missed opportunity by Antoine Griezmann led to a counterattack, culminating in Vitinha finding the back of the net.
Atletico seemed to have scored when Julián Álvarez netted in the 57th minute, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR check revealed that Koke had fouled Désiré Doué prior to the goal. Things worsened for Atlético when defender Clement Lenglet was shown a second yellow card and sent off, while Alexander Sorloth shockingly missed an easy chance, sending the ball over the bar instead.
Finally, substitute Senny Mayulu scored PSG’s third goal in the 87th minute, effectively sealing Atletico Madrid’s fate, and Lee Kang-in converted a penalty in stoppage time to seal the poker.
