Result Paris Saint Germain 0 – 1 Botafogo, Thursday 19 June 2025, FIFA Club World Cup
Group Stage – Group B
Botafogo has shocked Champions League champion Paris Saint-Germain with a 1-0 victory in the second match of the FIFA Club World Cup on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
The standout player was Igor Jesus, who netted the only goal in the 36th minute. He scored with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, thanks to an assist from Jefferson Savarino, who delivered a through ball during a quick counterattack.
This is a hard loss for PSG. They hadn’t faced defeat in any competition since May 3. Jesus’ remarkable goal marked the first time PSG conceded since May 17, when they dominated Atlético Madrid 4-0 last Sunday in Pasadena.
PSG had outscored their last three opponents by a total of 12-0, securing victories in both the French Cup and the Champions League final in the process.
Ballon d’Or hopeful Ousmane Dembélé was absent for the second consecutive game for PSG due to a quadriceps injury.
