Result Monterrey 1 – 1 Inter Milan, Tuesday 17 June 2025, FIFA Club World Cup, Group Stage

Monterrey and Inter Milan ended with a draw in the Group Stage of the FIFA Club World Championship on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Los Angeles, California.  Inter was unable to surpass a 1-1 tie with the Mexican team Monterrey. Sergio Ramos scored first, but Lautaro Martínez equalized the score. This result isn’t too shabby for Christian Chivu’s debut as Inter’s coach, showing some positive signs, yet there’s still plenty of work ahead.

Their next game is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, against the Japanese Urawa Reds, who are at zero points in Group E after the defeat against River Plate.

The game …

In the 25th minute, Monterrey gained the upper hand. Captain Sergio Ramos netted a goal with a header directed to the bottom right corner. The assist came from Óliver Torres, who delivered a cross after a corner given away by Francesco Acerbi. Ramos, who excels at jumping, connected with Torres’ corner cross and headed the ball past the not-so-impressive Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Inter leveled the score in the 42nd minute. Captain Lautaro Martínez found the net from a short distance with a right-footed shot aimed at the center. The assist came from Carlos Augusto. Asllani’s free kick reached Esposito, who was positioned just beyond the offside line (thanks to a brilliant play by Acerbi). Lautaro then simply tapped the ball into the net leaving Monterrey goalkeeper Esteban Andrada with no hope.

Stats before the game

Serie A runners-up Inter are making their return to the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time since 2010, looking for redemption after a tough season. Inter’s path in a competitive Group E is set to be challenging.

Following a setback against Toluca on May 10, Monterrey is keen to bounce back in this match. Inter Milan comes into this game after experiencing a defeat to PSG in the Champions League Final on May 31.
