The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, commonly known as AFCON 2025 or CAN 2025, is set to be the 35th edition of the biennial African football tournament. Organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), it will take place in Morocco for the second time, the first being in 1988. The tournament is scheduled to run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Qualified teams
The upcoming 2025 edition is expected to be another exhilarating contest, showcasing 24 teams vying for the esteemed title.
As the host nation, Morocco participated in the qualifiers in Group B, even though they qualified automatically. Ghana, who have won the African championship four times, did not qualify this time. They finished at the bottom of Group F, marking their first absence from the Africa Cup of Nations since 2004. Tunisia has secured a spot for the 22nd time, further extending their record for consecutive appearances. Tunisia is making its 17th consecutive appearance in the tournament, with their last absence dating back to 1994.
Comoros, Gabon, Sudan, and Zimbabwe are making their return to the continental tournament after not participating in 2023. Benin and Uganda are also back after nearly five years away from the event. Botswana qualified for the second time, having first participated in 2012. Meanwhile, Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, and Namibia did not qualify after their appearances in 2023.
