The Serie A Week 33 clash between Empoli and Venezia ended with a draw on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. This match represents a critical fight for survival, with Empoli currently in 19th place and Venezia in 18th, both teams tied at 25 points.

The action unfolded in the second half, with Empoli initially taking the lead thanks to Fazzini’s goal, assisted by Henderson. However, Yeboah quickly equalized for Venezia following a corner, where Vasquez played a crucial role. In the closing moments, Busio helped Venezia complete their comeback, but just a couple of minutes later, Anjorin netted a stunning curling shot from the edge of the box to make it 2-2.

Coach Stats: This marks the fifth encounter between Roberto D’Aversa and Eusebio Di Francesco, and the record stands even with each coach having secured one victory (D’Aversa with Parma in 2018 and Di Francesco with Frosinone last season) along with two draws. Notably, Di Francesco’s teams have found the net in all four matches played.

Empoli gained the advantage in the 59th minute when Jacopo Fazzini found the net with a right-footed shot from just a few feet away, placing the ball into the bottom left corner. The setup came from Liam Henderson, who delivered a precise cross from the right side of the box. Fazzini skillfully maneuvered between two Venezia defenders to score on the fly!

Venezia leveled the score at 1-1 in the 67th minute when John Yeboah found the net with a close-range left-footed shot. The goal was set up by Hans Nicolussi Caviglia, who delivered a cross after a corner awarded due to a foul by Mattia Viti. Nicolussi Caviglia took the corner, and Vasquez’s awkward attempt to clear the ball fell short, allowing Yeboah to skillfully score on the fly!

In the 85th minute, Venezia found the back of the net. Gianluca Busio struck with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner. Venezia completed their comeback when Yeboah set up Gytkjaer right in front of the six-yard box, but his attempt was thwarted by Vasquez. Busio seized the rebound and confidently scored, making it 2-1!

Empoli equalized in the 87th minute when Tino Anjorin found the net with a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner, assisted by Liberato Cacace. Anjorin showcased his skill by winning a challenge near the three-quarter line, making a strong run towards the goal, and finishing with a beautifully curled shot that left Radu with no chance!

Stats before the game

Among the teams that Empoli has never lost to in Serie A, Venezia is the one they have faced the most, with five encounters resulting in two wins and three draws for the Venetians. In their nine meetings across Serie A and Serie B at Empoli’s home ground, both teams have consistently found the net, totaling 35 goals, which averages out to 3.9 goals per match.

Empoli has yet to play a Serie A match on Easter Sunday, while Venezia has participated in six such matches, achieving one win, one draw, and four losses (including a forfeited match on March 24, 1940, against Milan, which ended 0-0 on the field).

Empoli’s last victory in Serie A was on December 8 against Hellas Verona. Since then, they have managed only five points from five draws and suffered 12 defeats, making them the lowest-performing team in Serie A during this period, tied with Monza for points. After enduring eight draws and six losses, Venezia finally secured a 1-0 victory against Monza in their last Serie A match. The Venetians have not achieved back-to-back wins in the league since November 2021, when they defeated Roma and Bologna.
