Inter won the UEFA Champions League game against RB Leipzig on Tuesday 26 November 2024 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy. Inter celebrated their fourth victory in five Champions League matches. The Nerazzurri temporarily climbing to the top of the league table with 13 points as they await their upcoming clash with Liverpool (and Real Madrid tomorrow). This win brings them closer to securing a spot in the round of 16.
On the other hand, Leipzig faced their fifth consecutive defeat, sitting at 33rd place with 0 points, tied with Slovan Bratislava, Young Boys, Red Star, and Bologna. The turning point occurred in the 27th minute when the French defender accidentally redirected a free kick from Dimarco into his own net, leaving goalkeeper Gulacsi helpless. Shortly after, Inter nearly doubled their lead with a header from Pavard, who unfortunately had to exit the game due to an injury. In the second half, Dumfries squandered a promising chance for Inter, but Leipzig responded with a threatening shot from Nusa, which Sommer managed to block. In injury time, Mkhitaryan had a goal ruled out due to a foul by Thuram on Lukeba, yet the Nerazzurri held on for the win.
The Nerazzurri are in fantastic shape, boasting eleven consecutive positive results across both the league and Champions League, with nine wins and two draws. Notably, Simone Inzaghi’s squad has yet to concede a single goal in Europe.
On the other hand, Leipzig has a different goal, as they are still searching for their first points in this Champions League season. The German side has faced four losses in their opening four matches and must secure a win to have a chance at reaching the playoff zone. However, their performance in the Bundesliga has been more promising, sitting in third place, even though they haven’t won in their last three games.
Inter gained the upper hand in the 27th minute when Castello Lukeba accidentally scored an own goal! The play unfolded with a free kick from the right taken by Dimarco, and the French defender’s backheel deflection ended up in his own net, leaving goalkeeper Gulacsi helpless.
