🇮🇹👉 Italy Head coach Luciano Spalletti called up a 23-man squad for the final two group matches in the Nations League. On Thursday, November 14, 2024, Italy will challenge Belgium at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. Following that, they will host France at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan on Sunday, November 17. Italy is currently at the top of League A Group 2. Italy has a one-point advantage over the French and a six-point cushion over the Belgians.
The newly called-up squad features Fiorentina’s Pietro Comuzzo, Juventus’ Nicolò Savona, and Lazio’s Nicolò Rovella, all of whom are getting their first chance at the senior level. Meanwhile, Inter’s Nicolò Barella, who has been missing since the European Championship, is poised to return.
The team will convene on the evening of Sunday, November 10, at Coverciano Technical Center, where they will engage in training until the morning of Wednesday, November 13, before departing for Brussels. After facing Belgium, the Azzurri will travel to Milan to prepare for their match against France at the Angelo Moratti Sports Centre in Appiano Gentile.
Here is the situation:
To qualify for the quarterfinals, Italy only needs to earn one point in these next two games. Let’s show our support and send all our positive energy to the Azzurri!
The first two teams will qualify for the quarterfinals. The team that finishes in third place will enter a play-off to avoid being relegated, facing off against one of the second-placed teams from League B, while the fourth-placed team will drop down to League B.

Italy Head Coach Luciano Spalletti , a new inductee into the Italian football Hall of Fame.
A month after their 2-2 draw at the Stadio Olimpico, Italy and Belgium are now set to face each other in Brussels nine years on from when they last did so in November 2015 (a 3-1 friendly victory for the Red Devils), a match which coincided with the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Heysel Stadium disaster. The Azzurri have a good overall record against the Belgians: 16 wins, five draws and four defeats (five wins and three defeats in Belgium). In the first encounter between the sides on 1 May 1913, Italy fielded nine Pro Vercelli players, a record that was only broken in 1947 when ten Grande Torino players took to the pitch.
✅ PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS AGAINST FRANCE.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 17, as Milan will be the venue for the thrilling encounter between Italy and France. This historic rivalry began 114 years ago when the Azzurri claimed victory over the French in their inaugural match on May 15, 1910. This upcoming game will be Italy’s 62nd in the Lombardy capital, with 49 of those matches held at San Siro (the Meazza). The two nations will meet for the 41st time, with this being their fourth showdown in Milan. Italy leads the series with 19 wins, while France has 11 victories and there have been 10 draws. This matchup is a true classic, having occurred five times in the World Cup, including the iconic 2006 final, and they also faced off in the EURO 2000 final.
✅ THE NEW FORMAT OF THE NATIONS LEAGUE
Unlike the previous edition, where the top-ranked team qualified directly for the Final Four, this time the top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage. In March 2025, they will play the quarterfinals (home and away). The winners of these matches will secure their place in the Finals, set to take place in June 2025 at the venue of one of the four finalists. The team finishing fourth in the group will be relegated to League B, while, in another new twist, the third-placed team will enter a play-off to avoid relegation against one of the second-placed teams from League B. The finalists will also earn a spot in the play-offs for the 2026 World Cup.

The moment that many had been eagerly anticipating—the debut of the “third Maldini” for the Italian national team—finally arrived on Monday, October 14, 2024. Daniel Maldini took to the field in the 74th minute, coming on for Giacomo Raspadori. The celebration was further enriched by the Italian team’s commanding 4-1 victory over Israel in the UEFA Nations League at the Blu Energy Stadium in Udine.
This milestone is historic, as the Maldini family now holds the exceptional honor of having three members—Cesare, Paolo, and Daniel—representing Italy. It was a moment filled with joy.
👉 Grandfather, Cesare Maldini debut on January 6, 1960 (Italy 3 – 0 Switzerland in Naples)

🏆👉 Italy defeated Israel in the UEFA Nations League, League phase – League A – Group A2 game on Monday 14 October 2024 at the Blu Energy Stadium in Udine, Italy. With this win, Italy maintained their position at the top of Group 2 in League A of the Nations League, bringing their total points to 10. Meanwhile, Israel is still searching for their first points.
The game really took off at the end of the first half when Retegui scored a penalty kick, awarded after Tonali was fouled, sending the ball neatly under the right crossbar. As the second half began, the Azzurri doubled their lead with a powerful header from Di Lorenzo, who connected perfectly with a lateral free kick delivered by Raspadori. In the 66th minute, the visitors attempted to make a comeback when Abu Fani found the net directly from a corner kick. However, Spalletti’s squad quickly responded, sealing the match in the 72nd minute with a low cross from Dimarco that Frattesi finished off with a left-footed shot inside the box. Then, in the 79th minute, Di Lorenzo scored his first brace for the national team, converting a pass from Udogie with a precise right-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Italy has never lost in the nine previous matches (W7 D2) played in Udine, conceding only two goals and collecting seven ‘clean sheets’ in the process; only in Florence have the Azzurri played more matches (30) in a single Italian city without recording a defeat.
Italy returns to play a match in Udine for the first time since March 23, 2019, against Finland: 2-0 victory for the Azzurri, in the EURO2020 qualifiers, thanks to goals from Nicolò Barella and Moise Kean.
After a 2-2 draw against Belgium, Italy could draw two games in a row for the first time since November 2021 (against Switzerland and Northern Ireland in that case).
Italy are unbeaten in nine (W6 D3) of their last 10 matches played on Italian soil; the Azzurri’s only defeat in that period came against England on 23 March 2023.
Following losses against Belgium, Italy and France, Israel could lose four games in a row for the first time since October 2017 to September 2018.
Italy have conceded in each of their last seven matches; the last time the Azzurri recorded a longer streak of consecutive goals conceded was between March and October 2018 (eight in that case).
Israel have scored in eight of their last nine matches; the only match, in the period, in which the Azzurri’s next opponents did not find the net was against Hungary (0-3, in a friendly, last June 8).
The next one will be Gianluigi Donnarumma’s 70th match with Italy; if he takes the field against Israel, the 1999-born player will equal Alessandro Mazzola (70) in 23rd place among the Azzurri players with the most appearances.
Davide Frattesi is the player who has collected the most appearances (16) in Luciano Spalletti’s management with Italy; instead, the Azzurri outfield player with the highest number of minutes (1125′) is Giovanni Di Lorenzo.
