Spain won the UEFA Nations League Semifinal defeating Italy on Thursday 15 June 2023 at the FC Twente Stadion in Enschede, Netherlands.   Italy will have to play for the 3rd place against the Netherlands in this stadium.  The Final will be played on Sunday Spain vs Croatia.

The Spaniards dominated the second half and conquered the Final at the end thanks to a goal – favored by a rebound on Cristante and a late climb from Acerbi – by newcomer Joselu. The match had remained in balance thanks to a miracle by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma on Merino and the lack of coolness of Morata and Rodri.

Not a good start for the Italian team. Spain opened the score in the 3rd minute following an error by defender Leonardo Bonucci resulting in the goal by Yeremi Pino defeating Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Italy equalized in the 11th minute. Forward Ciro Immobile converted a penalty defeating Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón.  The penalty is conceded by Normand.

Spain took the lead in the 88th minute with the goal by Joselu.

🏆👉 Lineup SPAIN (4-2-3-1): Unai Simon, Jesus Navas, Laporte, LeNormand, Jordi Alba; Rodri, Merino; Rodrigo M., Gavi, Yeremy; Morata.

🏆👉 Lineup ITALY (3-5-2): Donnarumma; Acerbi, Toloi, Bonucci; Di Lorenzo, Barella, Jorginho, Frattesi, Spinazzola; Zaniolo, Immobile.

👉🇮🇹     Italy Head Coach Roberto Mancini has called up 26 players for the Nations League Finals.  After finishing third in 2021, facing the Azzurri once again is Spain (15 June in Enschede), in what will be the two sides’ third semi-final meeting, after EURO 2020 and the 2021 Nations League.

There is also a first call-up for Lecce defender Federico Baschirotto, who had been part of the training camp for players of national interest in the past.  As part of a Club Italia strategy vision, revolving around achieving the objectives defined, Mancini has decided not to include Giorgio Scalvini and Sandro Tonali in the squad, allowing them to be available to Coach Paolo Nicolato for the Under-21 European Championships in Georgia and Romania (21 June to 8 July), where three places for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will be up for grabs, too. Finally, players from Inter and Fiorentina have not been considered due to their commitments in the Champions League and Conference League finals, respectively.
