Bologna debuts in the Champions League Matchday 1, League Phase with a goalless draw against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday 18 September 2024 at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium in Bologna, Italy. Despite a commendable performance, Bologna couldn’t clinch the three points. Following an initial moment of tension with Sudakov’s penalty saved by goalkeeper Skorupski, the rossoblù dominated possession for the full ninety minutes.
The clearest opportunity arose in the second half when Fabbian’s close-range effort was thwarted by Riznyk. Having said that, Bologna celebrated a historic night as they embark on their Champions League journey in front of their loyal fans. While the team may have stumbled a bit in the league, the enthusiasm among the rossoblù supporters is electric for a moment that will be forever remembered in the club’s legacy.
The opponents of Italiano’s team are the orange and blacks of Shakhtar, a Ukrainian team that is currently in seventh place in its championship. The team coached by Marino Pusic has collected 9 points in the Ukrainian Premier League, the result of three wins and two defeats in the first five games
