The UEFA Champions League, commonly referred to as UCL, is a yearly competition for club association football.  The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) organizes the Champions League. The tournament showcases top European clubs battling it out in a round-robin group stage. Following that, teams enter a two-legged knockout phase, which concludes with a single-leg final to crown the champion. The Champions League is recognized as the most-watched club competition in the world.  Moreover, it ranks as the third most-viewed football event overall. That is to say, only behind the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup.

The UEFA Champions League holds the title of the most prestigious club competition in European football.

🏆👉   Inter failed to win the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Second Leg game against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday 13 March 2024 at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid, Spain. In the first leg match – which ended 1-0 with a goal from Arnautovic, Inter took home much less than they built, with several missed scoring opportunities. After a hard-fought match for more than 120 minutes, Atletico Madrid won on penalties. The errors of Alexis Sánchez, Davy Klassen and Lautaro  Martínez were decisive.

Atlético Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak saved two penalties and Lautaro Martínez failed the decisive penalty shooting over the bar to send Atletico through 3-2 in the shootout after the match finished 2-1 to Atletico after extra time.

⚫🔵 Inter took the lead in the 33rd minute Federico Di Marco defeated Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak with a right-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Nicolò Barella.

Atlético Madrid equalized in the 35th minute. Forward Antoine Griezmann scored with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Ooops! Atlético took the lead in the 87th minute. Memphis Depay scored with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Koke.

Stats before the game: This will be the first time that Atlético Madrid will host Inter, in all competitions. The Colchoneros have won seven of their last nine home matches against Italian teams: the exceptions were the draw (2-2) against Juventus, in September 2019, and the defeat (0-1) against Milan, in November 2021. Inter have not won in 10 away games (D3, L7) against Spanish teams in the Champions League, i.e. since the success against Valencia, 5-1, in October 2004. Atlético Madrid’s 1-0 defeat in the first leg represented the sixth defeat suffered by the Spaniards in their debut match in the knockout phase of the Champions League; the Colchoneros ultimately progressed the first two times (against Bayer Leverkusen in 2014-15 and Barcelona in 2015-16), while they were eliminated in each of the last three (against Real Madrid in 2016-17, the Chelsea in 2020-21 and Man City in 2021-22).
Inter have progressed through seven of the eight previous rounds of the Champions League knockout phase in which they won the first leg.
