Inter with a sprint race won the UEFA Champions League Group Stage – Group D on Wednesday 8 November 2023 at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria.  Inter qualified to the Round of 16 with two days to spare. Now Inter will compete for first place with Real Sociedad. Nothing to do for Salzburg who will now compete for access to the Europa League with Benfica.

After a blocked first half which the Nerazzurri finished with a crescendo, in the second half Inzaghi’s team controlled the game and created more dangerous opportunities. The decisive goal was scored by the usual Lautaro Martinez, who came on in the second half and coolly scored the winning penalty five minutes from the 90th minute after a handball from Mads Bidstrup on Nicolò Barella’s shot.

Inter opened the score in the 86th minute. Argentinean forward Lautaro Martínez converted a penalty defeating Salzburg goalkeeper Alexander Schlager with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty is conceded by Mads Bidstrup following a handball.

✅ Stats before the game: Inter have won all three meetings with Salzburg in European competitions: 1-0 success in both the first leg and the second leg in the 1994 UEFA Cup final and 2-1 in the most recent Champions League match. Salzburg have lost only one of their last seven home matches against Italian teams in European competitions (W4, D2) and have already beaten Italian opposition at home in 2023 (1-0 against Roma in the Europa League). However, they have never won in their three home matches against these teams in the Champions League (D1, D2). After winning the first match of this edition of the Champions League (2-0 vs Benfica), Salzburg lost their last two matches in the tournament. Should they lose this match, they will equal their longest losing streak in the competition, which dates back to November 2020 with Jesse Marsch in charge (three matches). Inter have remained unbeaten in their last four away matches in the Champions League (W2, D2) and could record a run of five away matches in a row without defeat in the competition for the first time since February 2005 (one match with Alberto Zaccheroni and four with Roberto Mancini).

🏆 👉 Lineup  RB SALZBURG (4–4-2): Schlager; Dedic, Baidoo, Pavlovic, Ulmer; Sucic, Bidstrup, Capaldo, Gloukh; Simic, Konaté.

🏆 👉 Lineup INTER (3-5-2):  Sommer; Bisseck, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Frattesi, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Sanchez, Thuram

Napoli and Union Berlind ended the UEFA Champions League Group Stage Matchday 4 with a draw on Wednesday 8 November 2023 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Napoli, Italy. Napoli at seven points, with Braga four points behind. This is the first point in the group for Union Berlin. A mockery for Napoli who drew with Union Berlin, putting an end to the Germans’ streak of 12 consecutive defeats. Napoli took the lead with Matteo Politano, Fofana equalized in the second half.

Union Berlin tried to get back ahead, but produced few chances and took risks in the final, with Tousart and Aaronson close to scoring the winning goal. However, Napoli must apologize for conceding the equalizer, leaving a sensational counterattack to their opponents, who found themselves in numerical superiority after a local corner: Meret saved from Becker but could do nothing on Fofana’s tap in.

Napoli seeing André-Frank Zambo Anguissa’s goal disallowed in the 30th minute after Referee Danny Makkelie consulted the VAR.

Napoli opened the score in the 39th minute. It is Matteo Politano to defeat Union Berlin goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow to the to the top left corner. The assist is by Mário Rui.

Union Berlin equalized in the 52nd minute. David Datro Fofana defeated Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret with a right footed shot to the center.

✅  Stats before the game: Napoli won 1-0 in the first leg against Union Berlin, managing only six shots in total (including one on target). The six overall conclusions with an Expected Goals value of 0.25 from that match represent the lowest values for a team that has won a match in this season’s Champions League. Union Berlin is on its longest losing streak in European competition, losing each of its last four matches, including all three in this Champions League. The Berlin team is one of three clubs not to have collected any points in the group stage of this tournament, together with Benfica and Antwerp. Napoli have lost just two of their last 15 Champions League group stage matches (W10, D3), scoring on average 2.4 goals per game in the period (36 goals in 15 matches). This will be only Union Berlin’s second away match in the Champions League, following the 0-1 defeat against Real Madrid on matchday one. The German team only took four shots in that match (0.24 xG), conceding 32 shots (3.8 xG), with Jude Bellingham’s decisive goal coming in the 94th minute. Napoli have lost only one of their last 14 home matches in the Champions League (W9, D4), however, the defeat came in the first home match of this edition against Real Madrid. The Neapolitans have never lost two home games in a row in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League.

🏆👉 Lineup NAPOLI (4-3-3): Meret – Di Lorenzo, Natan, Rrahmani, Mario Rui – Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski – Politano, Raspadori, Kvaratskhelia.
