Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Bologna, 5th with 32 points and a positive goal difference of +6
Cagliari, 18th position with 15 points and a negative goal difference of -15

Cagliari dreaming with salvation after winning the Italian Serie A Week 20 game on Sunday 14 January 2024 at the Sardegna Arena in Cagliari, Italy. After a first half that ended in a draw, with Riccardo Orsolini opening the scoring and Andrea Petagna responding shortly after, in the second half the pace dropped and Thiago Motta’s team was unable to pose a threat. Instead, Claudio Ranieri’s rossoblù found the opportunity to overturn the result thanks to Wieteska’s great play which triggered Calafiori’s own goal. Another defeat for Bologna, who haven’t won the championship since the home win against Atalanta last December 23rd!

Bologna opened the score in the 24th minute. Riccardo Orsolini defeated Cagliari goalkeeper Simone Scuffet with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Stefan Posch.

Cagliari equalized in the 31st minute. Andrea Petagna defeated Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Alberto Dossena.

Cagliari took the lead in the 68th minute thanks to an own goal by Riccardo Calafiori.

✅  Stats before the game: In the last 10 matches in Serie A between Cagliari and Bologna the same result has never been repeated in two consecutive matches: in the first leg match the Emilians won 2-1 on 2 September – in this part there were four wins each and two draws. Cagliari have won all of their last four home matches against Bologna in Serie A, scoring eight goals in each set: this is the longest open streak of home victories for the Sardinians against an opponent present in this championship. Cagliari have an open streak of five consecutive home results in Serie A (W3, D2) and have not reached six consecutive games in Sardinia in the top flight without losing since the period between September and December 2019, with Maran on the bench. Bologna is one of the three teams – with Betis Sevilla and Mainz – who have drawn more away matches in the five major European tournaments in 2023/24 (six draws in nine away matches for Motta’s team).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lazio, 8th position with 30 points and a positive goal difference of +3
Lecce, 13th position with 21 points and a negative goal difference of -5

Lazio with a sprint race to climb to the European zone won the Serie A Week 20 game on Sunday 14 January 2024 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. Lazio with only two shots on target, gained three very important points, as well as their fifth success in a row thanks to Felipe Anderson’s decisive goal. Lecce, on the other hand, remains at 21 points and extends their winless streak in the league to four.

Lecce has only achieved one victory (2-1 against Frosinone) in the last 14 days of the championship. Lecce have never won away from home this Serie A season: five draws and four defeats. Lazio are coming off four victories in a row, including the one against Roma (1-0) in the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup.

Next weekend Lazio will be involved in the Final Four of the Supercoppa Italia, so the Biancocelesti will return to Serie A on Sunday 28 January in the big match at 6pm against Napoli (both Immobile and Zaccagni disqualified). Lecce will instead be busy on Sunday 21 January, from 8.45 pm, in the home match against Juventus.

Lazio opened the score in the 58th minute. Felipe Anderson defeated Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone with a right-footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Luis Alberto.

Stats before the game: Lecce have won three of the last four matches against Lazio in Serie A (1D), as many as they won in the previous 19 matches against the Biancocelesti in the top division (4D, 12L). After winning the first leg 2-1, Lecce could win both matches against Lazio in a single Serie A season for the first time ever. Lazio led by Maurizio Sarri did not win any of the three matches played against Lecce in Serie A (1N, 2L); Sarri could become the first Biancocelesti coach to remain without success in his first four matches against the Giallorossi in Serie A (Giuseppe Materazzi won one victory in the first four matches between 1988 and 1990). Lecce have won only one of the 16 away matches played against Lazio in Serie A: the 1-2 match on 9 January 2011, with an own goal by Muslera and a center by Grossmüller (Mauri for Lazio); five draws and 10 defeats complete the picture. Lazio have won the last three championship matches, the Biancocelesti could achieve four successes in a row in Serie A for the first time since the period between March and April last year.

👉 Lineup LAZIO (4-3-3): Provedel-Pellegrini, Gila, Patric, Marusic-Luis Alberto, Rovella, Guendouzi-Zaccagni, F. Anderson, Isaksen.

👉 Lineup LECCE (4-3-3): Falcone-Gendrey, Pongracic, Baschirotto, Gallo-Kaba, Ramadani, Gonzalez-Oudin, Krstovic, Almqvist.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Inter, 1st position with 48 points and a positive goal difference of +35
Monza, 11th position with 25 points and a negative goal difference of -1

Inter won the Serie A Week 20 game on Saturday 13 January 2024 at the U-Power Stadium in Monza, Italy.  Inter are in the 1st position with 51 points followed by Juventus in the 2nd place.  Inter ended the first round of this championship with a goal difference of +35 goals (44 scored and nine conceded); considering the first 19 matches played in a major tournament, only three teams have recorded a better difference between goals scored and conceded in the history of Serie A: Juventus +36 and +40, in 1959/60 and 1950/51 respectively, +45 Fiorentina in 1958/59 and +42 Torino in 1947/48.

Inter opened the score in the 12th minute. Hakan Çalhanoglu gave the lead to Inter after converting a penalty with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The penalty was conceded by Roberto Gagliardini following a hand ball.

In the 14th minute, Inter increased the score with Lautaro Martínez from very close range with a right footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Federico Dimarco.

In the 60th minute, Hakan Çalhanoglu scored with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Marcus Thuram.

Monza shortened the distance in the 69th minute. Captain Matteo Pessina defeated Inter goalkeeper converting a penalty with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty was conceded by Matteo Darmian after a foul in the penalty area on Dany Mota.

Inter sealed the game in the 88th minute with the goal by Marcus Thuram with a left-footed shot following a fast break.

✅   Stats before the game: After failing to find success in the two matches of the last championship (1D, 1L), Inter won the first leg against Monza: 2-0, with a brace from Lautaro Martínez, on the first day of this tournament. Monza have never won in the five home games played against Inter in all competitions, always conceding at least one goal in the partial (nine in total): of these, one match was played in Serie A (in January 2023) and four in the Italian Cup (between 1958 and 1990). Inter became the sole winter champion of Serie A for the 18th time in their history; on 10 of the previous 17 occasions (including four of the last five), the Nerazzurri went on to win the Scudetto at the end of the season.
Inter ended the first round with 48 points in the standings, the result of 15 wins and three draws (1P); in the era of three points for a win (since 1994/95), only twice had the Nerazzurri collected more after the first 19 games played in a single Serie A tournament: 51 in 2006/07 and 49 in 2007/08. After six useful results in a row against U-Power (W2, D4), Monza have lost two of their last three Serie A home games (W1): as many home defeats as those collected by the Brianza team in the previous 13 in front of their fans.

👉 Lineup MONZA (3-4-2-1):  Sorrentino; D’Ambrosio, Gagliardini, Caldirola; Pereira, Pessina, Bondo, Ciurria; Colpani, Carboni; Mota.

👉 Lineup INTER (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, De Vrij, Bastoni; Darmian, Frattesi, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro.

Italian Soccer Serie A

👉    Hello, my friends. Here are the 2023-2024 Italian Serie A Week 19 RESULTS / Nineteenth Round on Friday 5, Saturday 6, and Sunday 7 January 2024.  Inter are crowned as Winter’s Champions in Serie A for the 18th time in their history (less than Juventus with 28) being the absolute leaders with 48 points followed by Juventus with 46 points in the second position. An interesting detail, in 10 of the previous 17 they went on to win the Scudetto at the end of the season. This is the third time in the three-points per win era that Inter have won at least 48 points in the first 19 games played in a Serie A tournament: the previous ones were 2006/07 (51) and 2007/08 (49).

AC Milan regained the away win in Serie A TIM that was missing since 7 October against Genoa, also the date of the last clean sheets away from home. Milan beat Empoli which is the team that has both earned the fewest points in home games this season (five) and the team that has scored the fewest goals in home games (five).

The good news is for Torino after beating Napoli. Torino have collected 27 points in the first 19 days of this Serie A TIM; in the era of three points for a win, starting from 1994/95, only in 2016/17 (29) did the Granata obtain more points after the same number of matches played in a single tournament of the competition – 27 points also in 2018/ 19 and 2019/20. Napoli lost an away match 0-3 in Serie A for the first time since 2 September 2018 (0-3 v Sampdoria).

Despite Frosinone losing their game againt Monza, the 19 points collected so far, represent the best performance at the end of the first round in Serie A TIM for the club. The last team to be relegated at the end of the championship after having won at least as many after the first 19 days of the tournament was Benevento in 2020/21.

Gaetano Oristanio scored his first away goal in Serie A TIM and his first in a match as a starter in the competition.

Andrea Consigli saved a penalty kick in Serie A for the first time since 6 March 2022, against Aramu for Venezia in that case – since then he had failed to save any of the next nine shots faced from the spot.

Sassuolo ended their streak of 26 games in a row by always conceding goals in Serie A: the black and green team kept a clean sheet in a match in the competition for the first time since April 2023 (1-0 vs Juventus in that case).

Lazio beat Udinese. Lazio scored their first goal on a direct free kick from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s goal on 2 April against Monza. Before Luca Pellegrini, the last Lazio defender to score from a direct free kick in Serie A was Massimo Oddo, on 12 November 2006 against Udinese.

Dusan Vlahovic has been involved in a goal in three consecutive matches for the first time with a Juventus shirt in Serie A TIM (two goals and two assists in the last three matches). Salernitana is the opponent against whom Dusan Vlahovic has been involved in the most goals in Serie A: nine in five matches (six goals and three assists).

Roma drew their first Serie A match played in a calendar year for the first time since 2016, in that case 3-3 against Chievo. Atalanta have not lost their first match of the new calendar year on any of the eight occasions with Gian Piero Gasperini on the bench (6W, 2D).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Fiorentina, 4th position with 33 points and a positive goal difference of +9
Sassuolo, 16th position with 16 points and a negative goal difference of -8

Sassuolo got their New Year gift by winning the Serie A Week 19 game on Saturday 6 January 2024 at the Mapei Stadium in Sassuolo, Italy. Sassuolo is close to the safety zone and capable of picking up just one point in the last five championship matches. Therefore, thisis a major victor. yFiorentina are in a better standing coming fresh from three victories in a row and eager to consolidate the Champions League zone.

Sassuolo opened the score in the 9th minute. Andrea Pinamonti defeated Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano with a right footed shot to the center. The assist is by Marcus Pedersen.

✅    Stats before the game:Fiorentina has won the last two Serie A matches played against Sassuolo, after a series of two draws and three defeats; the Viola have never achieved three successes in a row against the Neroverdi in the top division (also two in 2016 with Paulo Sousa on the bench). Sassuolo has scored 29 goals against Fiorentina in Serie A and only against two teams have they done better in the top division (34 against Genoa and 30 against Milan); the neroverdi, in fact, have scored in all the last 11 championship matches played against the viola, after having failed to score in three of the previous nine. Sassuolo have reached 26 games in a row without a clean sheet in Serie A, they are the team in this championship that has waited the longest to keep a clean sheet. Sassuolo has exactly the same performance as last championship after 18 matches played, with 16 points resulting from four wins and four draws – in the last championship they drew their 19th match and ended the season in 13th place. No team has lost more home games than Sassuolo in the 2023 calendar year in Serie A: 10, equal to Empoli. Sassuolo have not won any of their last six matches at the MAPEI Stadium in the league (D2, L4), only three times in their history in Serie A have they recorded a longer streak of home games without success: seven in December 2018, in April 2018 and November 2017.
