Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Juventus, 3rd position with 58 points and a positive goal difference of +21
Genoa, 12th position with 33 points and a negative goal difference of -5

Juventus failed to recover the 2nd position after ending the Serie A Week 29 game against Genoa with a draw on Sunday 17 March 2024 at the Allianz Arena in Turin, Italy.  Juve with two posts, but also many technical errors held Juventus back, forcing them to a second consecutive draw after the one against Atalanta. Dušan Vlahović sent off for protests at the end of the match. However, Genoa’s performance in this match was excellent, snatching yet another golden point from a “big” Serie A team. Genoa are coming off two defeats in a row in Serie A and have never suffered three knockouts in a row in this championship; more generally, Genoa lost three of the last five matches (1W, 1N), the same defeats suffered in the previous 14 matchdays (5W, 6N).

Stats before the game: Genoa have remained unbeaten in their last two matches against Juventus in Serie A (1W, 1D) and have not recorded a longer unbeaten run against the Old Lady since a period between February 1990 and October 1991 (a run of four in that case ). The first leg between Juventus and Genoa ended 1-1 and only twice have these two teams drawn both seasonal matches in Serie A: in 1936/37 (under the guidance of Virginio Rosetta and Hermann Felsner respectively) and in 2011/ 12 (with Antonio Conte and Alberto Malesani first and Pasquale Marino then on the benches). Juventus are unbeaten in 19 home games in a row against Genoa in Serie A (15W, 4D) and in this period they have conceded on average only 0.6 goals per game, keeping 10 clean sheets, including the most recent match (2- 0, on December 5, 2021). In the last seven matchdays (since the start of the 22nd round), Juventus has collected six points (1W, 3D, 3L) and only four teams have had a lower performance; furthermore, the Bianconeri have conceded two goals in each of their last four matches and have not reached five since March 1962.

Two points in seven games for a Frosinone team that suddenly finds itself embroiled in the battle for survival. After the knockout in the direct clash with Sassuolo seven days ago, Di Framcesco’s team is looking for important points against Lazio to get back on top and not undermine the excellent start to the season.

Frosinone took the lead in the 13th minute. Pol Lirola defeated Lazio goalkeeper with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Nadir Zortea.

Lazio equalized in the 39th minute. Mattia Zaccagni defeated Frosinone goalkeeper with a left footed shot to the center. The assist is by Mattéo Guendouzi.

✅  Stats before the game: Lazio have never lost in five matches against Frosinone in Serie A (4W, 1D), conceding only one goal – in their history in Serie A only against Mantova, Reggiana, Sampierdarenese and Spezia (all six) have the Biancocelesti played more matches without recording any defeat.  In the two matches between Frosinone and Lazio at the home of the Ciociari in Serie A, only one goal was scored: a goal by Felipe Caicedo on 4 February 2019.  For the first time this Serie A season, Frosinone will start a day in the last three positions of the table (18th place in this case). Furthermore, after the 0-1 defeat against Sassuolo, the Ciociari could remain without a goal for two matches in a row for the first time in this championship.  Since mid-December 2023, Frosinone has been both the team that has earned the fewest points in Serie A (five in 13 games) and the one that has conceded the most goals (33: 2.5 on average). Lazio have lost their last four official matches, the Biancocelesti have not recorded five defeats in a row in all competitions since the period between April and May 1985. Since the beginning of February 2024, Lazio and Frosinone are two of the three teams, together with Sassuolo, to have lost the most matches in Serie A: five defeats.

👉 Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Empoli, 17th position with 25 points and a negative goal difference of -20
Bologna, 4th position with 51 points and a positive goal difference of +16

Empoli are running out of time and lost the Serie A Week 29 game against Bologna on Friday 15 March at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. This is the first official match between Davide Nicola and Thiago Motta, as coaches. It’s a tough defeat for Empoli risking to go down to the relegation zone.

After a siege that lasted practically 90 minutes, with two sensational chances in the second half by Saelemaekers and Orsolini, in the 94th minute came the decisive goal from the usual Fabbian which gave the guests a fundamental victory in Europe. After an entire match of resistance, Empoli fell in the final moments of the match.

In the next round, Bologna will host Salernitana, while Empoli will play against Inter at San Siro.

Image

✅   Stats before the game: After the 3-0 success in the first leg last October 1st, Bologna could win both seasonal matches against Empoli for the first time in Serie A. Bologna have never won away against Empoli in Serie A (4N, 5L), in fact the rossoblù have played more matches away from home against any team without ever achieving any success in the tournament: Como also has nine. Empoli have lost their last two league games without scoring, the Tuscans could record multiple defeats in a row in Serie A for the first time since the period between June and September 2023 (six in that case, always remaining without a goal). After six victories in a row with always at least two goals scored, Bologna lost their last match against Inter 0-1; the rossoblù have not lost two games in a row in the league since January 2023 (against Roma and Atalanta in that case). Bologna is the team that has suffered the lowest total number of shots in Serie A in 2024: 95 in 10 matches. In the new calendar year, only Inter (five) and Torino (eight) have conceded fewer goals than the rossoblù (10) in the league.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lazio, 9th position with 40 points and a  positive goal difference of +3
Udinese, 17th position with 24 points and a positive goal difference of +15

Udinese caused an upset at the Olimpico Stadium by winning the Serie A Week 28 game against Lazio on Monday 11 March 2024 in Rome, Italy. Lazio missed a great opportunity and moves away from the European zone, with the Champions League now 11 points away. Udinese makes a leap forward and leaves the relegation zone, moving up to thirteenth place.

Udinese beat the Olimpico and move away from the hot zone. After a balanced first half and with Lazio close to scoring through Zaccagni, everything happens in just a few minutes of the second half. The guests pass with Lucca, but Lazio immediately equalizes with an own goal from Giannetti, not even having time to beat that Zarraga puts the Friulians back ahead. The hosts pressed but were no longer able to regain the result.

Lazio is currently in ninth place in the standings with 41 points (result of 12 wins, 5 draws and 11 defeats); Udinese, on the other hand, is 15th in the standings with 25 points (the result of 3 wins, 16 draws and 9 defeats).

Udinese took the lead in the 47th minute. Lorenzo Lucca defeated Udinese goalkeeper from very close range with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Hassane Kamara.

Lazio equalized in the 49th minute thanks to the own goal by Lautaro Giannetti.

Udinese took the lead again in the 51st minute. Oier Zarraga scored with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Florian Thauvin.

✅    Stats before the game: Udinese have won only one of the last 18 Serie A matches against Lazio (5N, 12P): 3-1 at the Olimpico stadium on 29 November 2020, with goals from Arslan, Pussetto and Forestieri. Udinese is the team against which Lazio have kept a clean sheet the most times during the last 10 Serie A seasons (since 2014/15): 12 out of 19 matches in the period. After a series of five consecutive home wins without conceding a goal, Lazio have not won any of their last three home matches against Udinese in Serie A, drawing the most recent two (1P): the Biancocelesti have never hit more than once in a row at home against the Friulians. Lazio have lost four of their last six championship matches (2W), including the two most recent (against Fiorentina and Milan): the Biancocelesti have not recorded three defeats in a row in Serie A since July 2020. Udinese have won only one of their last nine league matches, compared to four draws and four defeats – however, the only success in this run came away, 1-0 on 12 February against Juventus.
