👉 Parma achieved a fantastic win in their Serie A Week 2 game, overcoming AC Milan on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Ennio Tardini Stadium. Parma is kicking off their Serie A season in a unique way, with two home games right from the start. They first faced Fiorentina, ending in a 1-1 draw. Then, they celebrated a fantastic victory over the formidable AC Milan, marking a major achievement for the team.

On a positive note, I have to commend Parma for their bravery. They played fearlessly and showed they are ready to stay in Serie A for the long haul. Fans are thrilled to see their team performing so well in Serie A after being promoted from Serie B this season.

On a negative note, Milan is kicking off the 2024-25 season with a rough start. Their performances in the first two matches have been far from impressive.

The last Parma player to score in the first two matchdays of a Serie A season before Dennis Man was Alberto Paloschi in the 2009-10 season, when he scored against Udinese and Catania.  Paloschi netted goals against Udinese and Catania during that time.

Paulo Fonseca had a draw in his first Serie A match as Milan’s coach. In the past 40 years, only one coach has failed to win in their first two matches with the Rossoneri: Stefano Pioli, who drew with Lecce and lost to Roma in October 2019.

The beginning

What an incredible beginning! Parma took the lead just two minutes into the match! Dennis Man found the back of the net with a left-footed shot aimed at the top center of the goal, leaving AC Milan’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan with no chance. The assist came from Emanuele Valeri.

AC Milan made a comeback and leveled the score in the 66th minute. Christian Pulisic, the American forward, found the net with a close-range right-footed shot aimed at the center of the goal, thanks to an assist from Rafael Leão.

The score changes again…

The score kept fluctuating, and Parma reclaimed the lead in the 77th minute. Matteo Cancellieri netted a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, with a helpful assist from Pontus Almqvist.

In their opening league games, both Parma and Milan finished with draws. Parma faced Fiorentina at home and ended up with a 1-1 scoreline, while Milan, who found themselves two goals behind Torino, pulled off an impressive comeback to level the match during injury time.

Milan has found the back of the net in each of their last 16 Serie A encounters with Parma, scoring a total of 38 goals, which averages out to 2.4 goals per game. The Rossoneri have only had longer scoring streaks against two other teams in the top division: Triestina (17 matches) and Catania (18 matches).

Milan boasts 29 victories against Parma in Serie A (with 14 draws and 11 losses), trailing only Roma, who have 33 wins against the Emilians in this competition. Notably, the Rossoneri are unbeaten in their last eight clashes with the Crociati, winning six and drawing two, after experiencing two consecutive losses in the 2013/14 season.

In their last two away games against Parma in Serie A, Milan emerged victorious, achieving a better record only once in the top flight against the Emilians, which was during the period from 2004 to 2006 when they secured three consecutive away wins under Carlo Ancelotti.

Milan started this season with a draw, but over the last 12 Serie A seasons, they have always managed to secure at least one win in their first two matches. The last time the Rossoneri went without a win in their opening two games was in the 2011/12 season, where they drew against Lazio and lost to Napoli.

🇮🇹  Inter Milan celebrated their first home victory of the season by defeating Lecce in the Serie A Week 2 match on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy. The match ended with a score of 2-0 in favor of Inter. Certainly, this victory marked Inter’s first three points of the league after their previous draw in Week 1, while Lecce remains at the bottom with no points and a goal difference of -6.   In their next match, Inter will host Atalanta, while Lecce will take on Cagliari at home.

The opening goal came early in the 5th minute when Darmian scored with a header. Later, in the 70th minute, Hakan Calhanoglu secured the win by converting a penalty kick.  Çalhanoglu has successfully converted all 17 of his penalty attempts in Serie A. As of the 2023-24 season, he leads the big 5 European Leagues with the highest number of goals from the penalty spot, netting 11, while Cole Palmer follows with nine.

From a technical standpoint, Inter holds an advantage over Lecce. Having said that, Inter demonstrated they can secure victories without solely depending on Lautaro Martinez.  In sum, it was a solid test for Inzaghi.  Surely, Hakan Calhanoglu delivered as expected. Overall, it’s great for Inter to return to their winning form.

Inter got off to a great start by scoring an early goal in the 5th minute. Matteo Darmian found the net with a well-placed header from close range, targeting the upper center of the goal. The assist came from Mehdi Taremi.

Hakan Çalhanoglu is ready to take the spotlight!

In the 70th minute, Lecce gave away a penalty when Kialonda Gaspar fouled Marcus Thuram inside the box. Hakan Çalhanoglu stepped up and confidently struck the ball with his right foot, sending it into the top right corner of the net. The fans in the stadium were cheering on the Nerazzurri with great enthusiasm.

Inter started this championship with a draw in their first match. In the era of three points for a win, only three defending champions have failed to secure a win in their first two games of the season: Roma in 2001/02 (the only one to draw both), Milan in 2011/12, and Juventus in 2015/16.  Lecce, who were promoted from Serie B, are in the last position.

Inter holds the record for the most victories against Lecce in Serie A, boasting 28 wins, 4 draws, and just 4 losses. They also lead in goals scored against the Salento side, netting 85 times in the league.

In the past 11 seasons of Serie A, Inter has maintained an impressive record, never losing their opening home match, achieving nine victories, including five in their last five attempts. The last time they faced defeat in their first home game at San Siro was back in September 2012, under the management of Andrea Stramaccioni.

From the 2022/23 to the 2023/24 season, Inter has triumphed in all four encounters with Lecce, scoring 10 goals while conceding just one, resulting in a remarkable goal difference of +9. The only team they performed better against during this stretch was Salernitana, with a +10 goal difference.

In their 18 home matches against Lecce in Serie A, Inter has claimed victory 17 times, with only one loss (a 1-0 defeat on January 12, 2000, courtesy of a goal from Vugrinec). They have achieved 12 clean sheets and allowed just six goals, never conceding more than one in a game. Lecce is among only four teams that have played at Inter’s home ground at least 10 times without ever scoring two goals, alongside Novara (13), Foggia (11), and Avellino (10).

Since the end of last season and the beginning of this one, Inter has drawn three consecutive matches. The Nerazzurri have not experienced back-to-back draws since December 2017 to February 2018 in the league, when they had five draws during that period under Spalletti’s management.

Juventus kicked off the 2024-25 season with a victory in their Serie A Week 1 match on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Italy. Unfortunately for Como, who just moved up from Serie B, they struggled in this challenging encounter. The Thiago Motta era began on a positive note, as the team celebrated a winning debut with a solid performance, scoring three goals against Como.

Samuel Mbangula, in his senior debut, got things started with a goal in the 23rd minute. Just after halftime, Timothy Weah, with an assist from Yildiz, doubled the lead in the 46th minute. Dušan Vlahović came close to scoring twice, hitting the post on both attempts, while Andrea Cambiaso capped off the match with a goal in the 91st minute. Looking ahead, Juventus will head to Verona for their next game, while Como will face Cagliari away.

The two teams meet on the opening day of Serie A for the first time since the 1988/89 season, when Juventus won 3-0.  In fact, two of Como’s last three season debuts in the top division have been against Juventus, both resulting in losses.

What an impressive way to lead the Bianconeri! Samuel Mbangula, just 20 years old, put Juventus ahead in the 23rd minute. He skillfully outmaneuvered Como’s goalkeeper, Pepe Reina, with a precise right-footed shot into the bottom right corner.  On the positive side, Mbangula is living up to Coach Thiago Motta’s expectations after being selected as a standout talent from the Next Gen squad.

Juventus are on fire! Undoubtedly, a spectacular goal before ending the first half in the 45+1.  On this occasion, Timothy Weah scored with a left footed shot to the center. First, Yildiz delivered a low cross, second, Vlahovic faked a move, and Weah took a left-footed shot right away.  As a result, the ball struck the crossbar before sailing over the goal line.

The victory is sealed in the 91st minute. Andrea Cambiaso scored with a powerful left-footed strike sending the ball into the bottom left corner. The assist came from Samuel Mbangula.

Juventus faced a tough start against Como in Serie A, losing three of their first five matches (1 win, 1 draw) between 1949 and 1952. Juventus has gone on to remain unbeaten in their next 21 matchups (12 wins, 9 draws) against Como in the league. Their latest victory was a 3-1 win at Sinigaglia on February 22, 2003, featuring an own goal by Juarez, along with goals from Marco Di Vaio and Mauro Camoranesi for Juventus, while Fabio Pecchia scored for Como. Interestingly, Juventus has been the team against which Como has drawn the most in Serie A history, with 10 draws out of 26 matches; Como has three wins, while Juventus has claimed 13 victories.

Juventus holds the record for the most wins on the first matchday in Serie A history, with 59 victories, including seven wins in their last eight opening games (1 draw). Como is making a return to Serie A after a 21-year absence; on August 19, it will have been exactly 7758 days since their last top-flight match, a 1-0 win against Torino on May 24, 2003.  That is to say, the only longer wait for Como was between May 1953 and October 1975, totaling 8162 days. In the 2023/24 Serie B regular season, Como has matched the record for the most wins, with 21, alongside Parma and Venezia.

Lecce lost the Serie A Week 1 on Monday 19 August 2024 at the Via Del Mare Stadium in Lecce, Italy. Atalanta claimed the away victory after a rough first thirty minutes, struggling to find their rhythm.  Undeniable, once Gasperini’s team found their footing, they dominated the game.   Furthermore, Mateo Retegui and Marco Brescianini both netted two goals, effectively dismantling Lecce, who seemed to vanish after the first half’s midpoint.  Despite several key absences, Atalanta clearly signals their intent to their competitors.  In sum, Atalanta have now won four of their last five away games (L1) against Lecce in Serie A.

Next up, Lecce will challenge Inter, while Atalanta prepares to meet Torino.

Previously, Lecce has faced defeat in their last two league matches at the Via del Mare, and they haven’t managed to score a single goal. In fact, throughout their Serie A history, the Salento team has only experienced three consecutive home losses without scoring once. Having said that, this occurred between May 1991 and September 1993.

Marco Brescianini scores on his debut!  Brescianini gave the lead to Atalanta in the 35th minute with a right-footed shot straight down the middle, successfully beating Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone.

The assist came from Matteo Ruggeri, who delivered a perfect cross.  Retegui scores his first goal for the Nerazzurri, extending our lead to two!

In the 57th minute, Mateo Retegui scored a penalty with a right-footed shot aimed at the center, which was awarded after Lassana Coulibaly committed a foul.

Atalanta is dazzling, and they’ve just added another pair of goals!  Surely, Marco Brescianini living a great moment scoring with a right-footed strike to the bottom right corner, with Mario Pasalic providing the assist.

Atalanta have won four of their last six matches (D2) against Lecce in Serie A.  All in all, two wins without conceding a goal in the last championship; the last draw in the top flight between the two teams dates back to 12 February 2012 (0-0 at the home of the Goddess). In addition, Atalanta have collected three wins in their last four away games (D1) against Lecce in Serie A, after having won only two of their first 10 away games (D3, D5) against the Salento team in the top flight.

The only precedent between Atalanta and Lecce that took place on the first day of Serie A dates back to 12 September 2004: a 2-2 draw at the home of the Goddess (Giampaolo Pazzini and Demetrio Albertini scored for the Bergamo team, Guillermo Giacomazzi and Valeri Bojinov for the Salento team). Having said that, in 2023/24, Lecce won on the first matchday of the season for the first time in their history in Serie A, after recording six draws and 11 defeats in the previous 17.  At this time, Atalanta have won on the first matchday in each of the last six Serie A championships (since 2018/19).  All in all, they have already a record for consecutive wins for the Goddess on the first matchday of the season in the top flight.

Antonio Conte’s inaugural match as Napoli’s coach in the 2024-25 Serie A Season has proven to be a dismal affair, with his team suffering a 3-0 loss to Hellas Verona at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium. As a matter of fact, despite a promising first half, Napoli faltered dramatically in the second half. As a result, they conceded three goals, including a brace from Mosquera, leaving Conte’s squad in a troubling position.

The game between Cagliari and Roma wraps up with a scoreless result. The first half lacked excitement, with only one shot on target from the home team. Things heated up in the second half, as the Giallorossi nearly scored several times, including a near miss from Dovbyk that hit the crossbar.  Cagliari responded with Marin, who also struck the woodwork, but in the end, neither side could find the back of the net.

Atalanta claimed the away victory after a rough first thirty minutes, struggling to find their rhythm.  Undeniable, once Gasperini’s team found their footing, they dominated the game.   Furthermore, Mateo Retegui and Marco Brescianini both netted two goals, effectively dismantling Lecce, who seemed to vanish after the first half’s midpoint.  Despite several key absences, Atalanta clearly signals their intent to their competitors.  In sum, Atalanta have now won four of their last five away games (L1) against Lecce in Serie A.

Juventus kicked off the 2024-25 season with a victory in their Serie A Week 1 match at the Allianz Stadium. Unfortunately for Como, who just moved up from Serie B, they struggled in this challenging encounter. The Thiago Motta era began on a positive note, as the team celebrated a winning debut with a solid performance, scoring three goals against Como. Samuel Mbangula, in his senior debut, got things started with a goal in the 23rd minute. Just after halftime, Timothy Weah, with an assist from Yildiz, doubled the lead in the 46th minute. Dušan Vlahović came close to scoring twice, hitting the post on both attempts, while Andrea Cambiaso capped off the match with a goal in the 91st minute.
