👉  AS Roma defeated AC Milan in their final home match of Serie A Week 37 on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium. What more can be said about AC Milan’s current season? It has been nothing short of a tragedy, a year to be overlooked. It is difficult to accept, but AC Milan has been eliminated from all European competitions following their defeat to Roma. Mathematically, their chances are nonexistent. It is now imperative to conduct a thorough analysis on how to ‘reconstruct’ this struggling team.

This game will be a significant milestone for Claudio Ranieri, as it marks his 500th match as a Serie A coach, making him the 12th coach in the league’s history to achieve this feat. Additionally, it will be exactly 34 years and 251 days since he first stepped onto the sidelines in Serie A on September 9, 1990, when he coached Cagliari against Inter, setting a remarkable record for the longest gap before reaching 500 matches in the top division.

Milan has faced Roma more than any other team in Serie A, achieving 80 victories out of 179 encounters, along with 54 draws and 45 wins for Roma. The Rossoneri have gone unbeaten in their last 10 league games against the Giallorossi, with 6 wins and 4 draws. The last time Roma triumphed in Serie A was on October 27, 2019, with a score of 2-1 at the Olimpico. Milan hasn’t had a longer unbeaten streak against Roma in the league since the period from 1988 to 1996, when they went 17 matches without a loss.

⚽️   Roma took an early lead with a quick goal in the 3rd minute, as Gianluca Mancini headed the ball into the top right corner from close range. The assist came from Matías Soulé, who delivered a cross after a corner was given away by Matteo Gabbia.

⚽️ In the 39th minute, AC Milan leveled the score at 1-1, thanks to a right-footed shot from João Félix that found the center of the goal, with an assist from Álex Jiménez.

⚽️ Roma has regained the lead in the 58th minute, thanks to Leandro Paredes who scored with a right-footed free kick into the bottom left corner.
The score is now Roma 2 – 1 Milan.

In the 87th minute, Roma sealed Milan’s fate with a stunning goal, dashing their hopes. Bryan Cristante found the net with a powerful right-footed shot from outside the box, placing it perfectly in the bottom left corner, thanks to an assist from forward Stephan El Shaarawy. The final score was Roma 3 – 1 Milan.

✅  Stats before the game:

Milan has won three of their last four away matches against Roma in the league (1D), as many as the Rossoneri wins in their previous 16 away matches against the Giallorossi in Serie A (3W, 7D, 6P).

With the defeat against Atalanta, Roma ended a streak of 19 unbeaten games in the league (14W, 5D); the Giallorossi could lose at least two matches in a row in Serie A for the first time since the period between November and December last year (four in that case, two with Ivan Juric and two with Claudio Ranieri).

Milan is coming from three consecutive wins in the league and in this Serie A season they have never achieved four consecutive wins (three also last September); the last time they recorded at least four consecutive wins in the league dates back to the period between March and April 2024 (five in that case).

Milan have won their last three away games in Serie A (against Udinese, Venezia and Genoa), the last time they recorded four consecutive away wins in the league dates back to the period between September and October 2021 (the fourth win in that case came against Roma).

On the one hand, Milan is one of the two teams, along with Atalanta, to have scored the most goals in the second half of the season in Serie A (both 29), on the other, Roma (10) is the team that has conceded the fewest goals in the second half of the current championship.
