🇮🇹  Fiorentina won the Serie A Week 27 match on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy. Fiorentina celebrates a much-needed victory after suffering three straight losses, temporarily moving ahead of Bologna to claim 6th place with 45 points. Meanwhile, Giampaolo’s squad remains stuck at 25 points, sitting in 16th place. Lecce is still struggling to find the back of the net. The last time the Salento team scored was during their match against Parma at the Tardini on January 31st.

Lecce is in desperate need of a victory to avoid falling into the relegation zone, as they have 25 points, just 4 points ahead of Empoli, who are in 18th place with 21 points.

Fiorentina secured a close victory over Lecce with a goal from Gosens just nine minutes into the first half. The match ended with a dramatic brawl, where Beltran struck the woodwork twice, and Danilo Veiga had a golden opportunity for the Giallorossi. In the closing moments, Lecce pushed forward, but Gudmundsson squandered a counterattack, leaving the match unresolved.

Palladino’s squad is set to take on Panathinaikos in the first leg of the Conference League round of 16, followed by a challenging match against Napoli at the Maradona in the upcoming championship round. The following matchday, they will welcome Milan to the Stadio Via del Mare.

Stats before the game

Fiorentina secured a dominant victory in the first leg against Lecce, winning 6-0 on October 20, 2024. This sets them up for a chance to defeat the Salentini in both Serie A matches this season, something they haven’t achieved since the 2005/06 season. That year marked the only time the Viola managed to win consecutive games against the Giallorossi in the league. Following the heavy 6-0 loss in the first leg, Lecce faces the possibility of allowing at least seven goals to a single opponent in a Serie A season for the first time since the 2019/20 season, when they conceded 10 goals across their two matches against Atalanta.

Bologna won the rescheduled Week 9 match with a 2-1 on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium in Bologna, Italy.  Coach Vincenzo Italiano’s squad climbs the standings to 44 points, surpassing Milan and closing in on fourth place, which is crucial for Champions League qualification. Surely, it was a tough night for Milan as their dreams of reaching the European zone slipped further away.  With this win, Bologna now sits in 6th place, while Milan stays in 8th with 41 points. Ouch! The key contributions from Santiago Castro and Ndoye scoring for Bologna. Leao’s goal, which briefly put Milan ahead at 1-0, ultimately didn’t change the outcome.

Stats: Bologna has achieved a home victory over AC Milan in Serie A for the first time since March 10, 2002, with a score of 2-0, thanks to goals from Salvatore Fresi and Julio Cruz.

In the upcoming match, Bologna will take on Cagliari, while Milan is set to face Lazio.

The Rossoneri are looking to bounce back after a loss in Turin against Torino. Bologna is eager to recover from an unexpected defeat to Parma.

Milan has an impressive record against Bologna. They are unbeaten in their last 17 Serie A encounters, with 13 wins and 4 draws. The last time Bologna triumphed over Milan was on January 6, 2016, when they won 1-0 at the Meazza thanks to a goal from Emanuele Giaccherini. The Rossoneri have only experienced longer unbeaten streaks against three teams in the top flight: Catania (26), Chievo (25), and SPAL (26).

Atalanta won the Serie A Week 26 on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli.  Atalanta delivered an impressive performance, dominating Empoli with a resounding 5-0 victory. This win is a significant boost for Atalanta as they re-establish themselves as serious contenders for the Scudetto. With this triumph, they now have 54 points, just three behind league leaders Inter at 57 and Napoli at 56.

Unfortunately for Empoli, they remain in a tough spot, sitting in third-to-last place with only 21 points. It was a goal-fest for Atalanta! They netted five times, while Empoli, who showed some promise in the first half, faltered after Gyasi’s own goal. Mateo Retegui continued his scoring streak, becoming the league’s top scorer with 21 goals. Ademola Lookman contributed with two goals, and Davide Zappacosta capped off the match with the fifth goal.

Empoli has struggled against Atalanta, losing their last five encounters in Serie A. They also have a longer streak of consecutive defeats against no other team, having lost five times to Inter, whom they have already played twice this season.

Nigerian forwaard Ademola Lookman shone brightly in Atalanta’s 5-0 triumph over Empoli, scoring two goals and securing the official MVP title for the Serie A Man of the Match.

What an exciting moment for Atalanta! They took the lead in the 27th minute when Emmanuel Gyasi accidentally scored an own goal. Zappacosta delivered a cross from the left, and Gyasi inadvertently redirected the ball, surprising goalkeeper Silvestri as it went in just under the crossbar.

Empoli is feeling the pressure! In the 33rd minute, Atalanta extended their advantage. Forward Mateo Retegui found the net from just a few feet away with a right-footed shot straight down the middle. The setup came from Berat Djimsiti after a corner that goalkeeper Marco Silvestri had to concede. Lookman delivered a cross from the left, Djimsiti headed it, and Retegui finished it off right in front of the goal.

It’s a celebration for Atalanta at the Castellani! In the 43rd minute, Ademola Lookman found the back of the net with a close-range right-footed shot. After a clever pass from Retegui, Lookman skillfully maneuvered past Silvestri and scored. Empoli must be feeling the pressure now. Empoli 0 – 3 Atalanta!

It’s Party time!!! Ademola Lookman scored a brilliant goal in the 55th minute, sending a left-footed shot into the top right corner, with Marten de Roon providing the assist.

The struggles for Empoli persist! In the 74th minute, Davide Zappacosta found the net with a right-footed strike into the bottom left corner. Mario Pasalic provided the assist, setting up Zappacosta on the left. The winger made a clever feint, advanced to the edge of the box, and fired a low shot that slipped past Silvestri.

In their last six home matches against Atalanta in Serie A, Empoli has managed only one win, suffering five losses. Over the past decade (since the 2015/16 season), they have only faced more home defeats against Inter, with seven losses. Currently, Empoli is dealing with three straight losses, failing to score in the last two matches. The last time they experienced four consecutive defeats or three straight losses without finding the net was between March and April 2024, when they lost four games without scoring.

Atalanta has gone 10 away matches in Serie A without a loss, boasting 7 wins and 3 draws. Under Gasperini’s management. Cagliari lost the Serie A Week 26 match on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the Unipol Domus Stadium in Cagliari, Italy.  Juventus celebrates its fourth consecutive championship win while trying to move past their Champions League exit. They secured a 1-0 victory against Cagliari, thanks to Dušan Vlahović’s decisive goal. With this win, Juventus climbs to fourth place with 49 points. The Bianconeri capitalized on Lazio’s misstep.  Lazio could only manage a draw against Venezia, leaving them at 47 points.

Cagliari’s run of positive results comes to an end, but they still hold a four-point cushion above the relegation zone. It was a well-earned victory for Juventus, although they missed several chances to extend their lead to 2-0 in the first half. Thiago Motta’s squad needs to work on managing their leads better, as they have often faced dramatic comebacks from opponents in similar situations.

Juventus will be back in action midweek for the Coppa Italia. They will face Empoli on Wednesday, and will return to league play on Monday, March 3, against Hellas Verona. Cagliari will take on Bologna at Dall’Ara on Sunday, March 2.

Juventus opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Dušan Vlahović found the back of the net with a precise left-footed shot into the bottom right corner. Taking advantage of a significant mistake by Mina on a back pass, Vlahović seized the opportunity, outmaneuvered Caprile, and slotted the ball home to put the visitors ahead.

Since the start of the last decade in 2010, Cagliari has managed to secure just one victory out of 26 encounters with Juventus in Serie A, recording 5 draws and suffering 20 losses. Only Lazio, with 22 wins, has triumphed over the Sardinians more often during this time.
