Italian Soccer Serie A

Hello, my friends. Here are the 2022-2023 Italian Serie A Week 28 RESULTS / Twenty-eighth Round on Saturday 1, Sunday 2, and Monday 3 April 2023.

The big clash between Napoli and AC Milan is all RED AND BLACK at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. The astonishing victory relaunches Milan and takes them to 51 points in third place +1 over Inter.  Milan scored a poker without conceding a goal silencing the fans.  Yet, Napoli remain the sole leaders with 71 points with a large margin, +16, on the second place now occupied by Lazio.

Surely, AC Milan passed “this test” with flying colors ahead of their next Champions League Quarterfinals match. Before Milan, the last team capable of scoring four away goals against the top team at the start of the day in Serie A was Fiorentina, against Inter on 27 September 2015 (4-1).

Napoli have lost two of their last three Serie A TIM home games (W1), as many knockouts as in their previous 20 home matches in the competition.

Tough week for Inter losing their third consecutive game defeated by Fiorentina at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. Inter also lost the third position stepping down to the 4th position.

The good moment is for Lazio to consolidate second place by moving to +5 on third-placed Inter and seven points ahead of fifth-placed Atalanta. On the other hand, Monza loses again after three games, but still maintains a fifteen-point lead over the relegation zone.

It was since September 1991 that Atalanta hadn’t conquered the Cremonese field in Serie A (2-1 on that occasion); since then, five draws and one loss.

Ademola Lookman is the debutant who has scored the most goals this season: 13 (12 at Kvaratskhelia). The last Atalanta player to score at least 13 goals on his Serie A debut at this point in the season was Poul Rasmussen in 1952/53.

Vincenzo Italiano surpassed 100 points in Serie A TIM as Fiorentina coach (102), winning his first challenge as manager against Inter in the Italian top division.

Giacomo Bonaventura had not scored a header in Serie A TIM since January 2018, again at the Meazza, with the Milan shirt against Lazio.

For the first time in their history, Juventus won three consecutive matches in Serie A against Verona keeping clean sheets in each of them.

Verona’s streak of away matches in Serie A TIM without wins extends to 15 (D6, L9) – The Verona side have not recorded so many since March 2016 (series of 17 in the circumstance).

It was since February 2012 – with Pioli on the bench – that Bologna hadn’t closed three home matches in a row without conceding a goal.

After 168 days Musa Barrow found his goal again in Serie A TIM: he hadn’t succeeded since 16 February 2022 against Napoli.

Goal number 65 with the Lazio shirt for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic counting all competitions: the midfielder has become the foreign player with the most goals in the history of the biancoceleste club.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s goal is Monza’s first conceded at home from outside the box in this Serie A TIM season.

With the draw against Salernitana, Spezia have collected exactly 100 points in their history in Serie A (including results obtained by default and excluding penalties).

Antonio Candreva today hooked Franco Causio (460 appearances) in 30th position among the most present all-time players in the history of Serie A.

This is the seventh season in which Paulo Dybala has scored at least 10 goals and provided at least five assists in SerieA TIM: since 2004/05, only three players have recorded seven league titles with 10+ goals and 5+ assists: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Antonio Di Natale and Francesco Totti.

Georginio Wijnaldum has scored in back-to-back home games in Europe’s big five for the first time since March 2017 (for Liverpool against Arsenal and Burnley).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Napoli, 1st position with 71 points and a positive goal difference of +48
AC Milan, 4th position with 48 points and a positive goal difference of +8

The big clash between Napoli and AC Milan is all RED AND BLACK in the Serie A Week 28 game on Sunday 2 April 2023 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples, Italy. The victory relaunches Milan and takes them to 51 points in third place +1 over Inter. Napoli remain with 71 points but with a large margin, +16, on the second place now occupied by Lazio. Milan crushed, humiliated Napoli at the Maradona without conceding a goal.

Surely, AC Milan passed “this test” with flying colors ahead of their next Champions League Quarterfinals match. This is the second time in the history of Serie A that Napoli and Milan face each other with a gap in favor of the Campania region greater than 15 points in the standings (23 in this case), the other dates back to 15 April 2018, with Napoli having 25 points more than the Rossoneri before the match (0-0 at the Meazza ended that match).

AC Milan opened the score with a brilliant goal by Rafael Leão defeating Napoli goalkeeper with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Brahim Díaz

AC Milan dominating and scoring again in the 25th minute. It is Brahim Díaz to score with a left-footed shot to the top right corner. Excellent performance with assist and now a goal.

A brace!!!! King Leão scoring in the 59th minute!!!!

The POKER! The Rossoneri silencing the Maradona scoring a fourth goal in the 67th minute. The goal by Alexis Saelemaekers with a right-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Davide Calabria.

✅  Stats before the game. This is the match number 150 in Serie A between Napoli and Milan: AC Milan have won only two of the last 16 league encounters against Napoli (D5, L9), but the two victories came during the last five games (L3). Milan have won both of their last two away games against Napoli in Serie A and only once have they achieved three consecutive wins at the Campania side in the top tournament: in the period between 1948 and 1951. It’s been since the 1989/90 season that Napoli and Milan – who will also face each other in the Champions League – haven’t faced each other at least four times in the same year: in that case the Azzurri won their first league match and then recorded a draw and two defeats in the other three between Serie A and Coppa Italia. Napoli is the team that has been waiting for the draw in Serie A for the longest time among those present in this championship: 23 games (W21, L2); only Bochum (one) has collected fewer draws than Campania (two) in the major five European tournaments 22/23.

Lineup NAPOLI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Kim, Mário Rui; Anguissa, Lobotka, Zieliński; Politano, Simeone, Kvaratskhelia.

Lineup AC MILAN (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kjær, Tomori, Hernández; Bennacer, Tonali; Díaz, Krunić, Leão; Giroud.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AS Roma, 6th position with 47 points and a positive goal difference of +9
Sampdoria, 19th position with 15 points and a negative goal difference of -28

AS Roma with a sprint race win the Serie A Week 28 game on Sunday 2 April 2023 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. The Giallorossi returned to success, hooking Inter in third place. Decisive the red card to Murillo leaving Sampdoria with 10 players. Wijnaldum takes the chair who first signs the advantage then gets the penalty (foul by Ravaglia) scored by Paulo Dybala at the expire, Stephan El Shaarawy rounds off the result in full recovery.

Roma have won their last two league matches against Sampdoria with a score of 1-0 and have not found at least three consecutive wins against the blucerchiati in Serie A since the period between 2006 and 2009 (five in that case, the last four without conceding a goal).

On the twenty-ninth day, Roma will visit Turin while Stankovic’s team is awaiting a direct clash with Cremonese.

AS Roma opened the score in the 57th minute. Georginio Wijnaldum defeated Sampdoria goalkeeper Nicola Ravaglia from very close range with a headed shot to the high center. The assist is by Nemanja Matic.

Sampdoria conceding another goal in the 88th minute. Argentinean forward Paulo Dybala converted a penalty with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

The Roman gladiators sealed the victory in the 94th minute with forward Stephan El Shaarawy.

✅   Stats before the game: Sampdoria drew in their last away match against Roma in Serie A and have not obtained two positive results in a row at the Olimpico against the Giallorossi in the league since 2006 (two draws obtained under the guidance of Walter Novellino). Roma have lost in three of their last four league games (W1), including the last two played against Sassuolo and Lazio: the Giallorossi have not suffered three consecutive knockouts in Serie A since July 2020. Sampdoria – who could win back-to-back matches in Serie A for the first time since November 2021 – have avoided defeat in four of their last seven league matches (W1, D3, L3), having lost in eight of the previous nine ( 1V). Josè Mourinho is traveling at an average points average of 1.69 in the league in his current management at Roma, the worst for a manager to spend more than a full season in Serie A at the helm of the Giallorossi since that of Zdenek Zeman (1.66) between 1997 and 1999.

Lineup AS Roma (3-4-2-1): Rui Patricio; Llorente, Smalling, Spinazzola; Zalewski, Matic, Wijnaldum, El Shaarawy; Dybala, Pellegrini; Abraham.

Lineup Sampdoria (3-4-2-1): Ravaglia; Zanoli, Murillo, Amione; Leris, Winks, Rincon, Augello; Djuricic, Cuisance; Gabbiadini.

Spezia, 17th position with 24 points and a negative goal difference of -20
Salernitana, 16th position with 27 points and a negative goal difference of -16

Spezia and Salernitana ended the Serie A Week 28 game with a draw on Sunday 2 April 2023 at the Alberto Picco Stadium in Spezia, Italy. The victory helped them to move away from the relegation zone.  Salernitana comes from three consecutive draws and only once in their history in Serie A have they reached four, in February 2022 but with two different coaches (two Colantuono and two Nicola games).

One point each for the two suitors who leave Hellas Verona, third from last: 6 points ahead of Spezia, 9 for Salernitana.

Salernitana took the lead in the 43rd minute after the own goal by Mattia Caldara.

Spezia equalized for the 1-1 in the 70th minute. The goal by Eldor Shomurodov defeating Salernitana goalkeeper Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Stats before the game. Spezia and Salernitana have faced each other only three times in Serie A: balance sheet with one win for each side and one draw; while there were 18 precedents between the two teams in Serie B (nine Ligurian victories, seven from Campania and only two draws).  Spezia’s only victory in the three previous matches against Salernitana in Serie A came precisely in the only match played at the Picco (2-1 with goals from Simy, Strelec and Kovalenko, on 16 October 2021) – also including Serie B, the Ligurians have collected five wins and a draw in their last six home league games against the granata.   Spezia have won just one of their last 10 home games in Serie A (D5 L4) – the most recent against Inter on 10 March – and have not won two home games in a row in the league since March-April 2022 (vs. Cagliari and Venice).  In the top five European leagues, only Ajaccio (nine) have finished more since the beginning of 2023 without scoring for Spezia (seven out of the 12 games played in Serie A) – the Aquilotti also have the worst attack (only nine goals scored ) since the beginning of the year in the top Italian tournament.

Lineup Spezia (4-2-3-1): Dragowski; Amian, Ampadu, Caldara, Nikolaou; Ekdal, Bourabia; Verde, Kovalenko, Gyasi; Shomurodov.
