👉  Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lazio, 6th position with 42 points and a positive goal difference of +9
Monza, 20th position with 13 points and a negative goal difference of  -14

Lazio won the Serie A Week 24 game crushing  AC Monza on Sunday 9 February 2025 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. Lazio celebrates a home victory, climbing back to fourth place with 45 points. Meanwhile, Monza remains at the bottom of the table with just 13 points. The match saw Lazio take control early, with Marusic. In the second half, Pedro added two more goals, while Castellanos and Dele Bashiru contributed to the final score. Monza managed to score a consolation goal through Sensi’s penalty.

Monza is feeling the heat as they find themselves at the bottom of the standings and need to start winning soon. The threat of relegation to Serie B looms large for them next season. On the other hand, Lazio is in a more favorable position, sitting comfortably in 6th place.

After Juventus’ victory, Lazio is looking for the three points to get back into the Champions League zone. Monza just needs the victory to rekindle their salvation hopes.

The match …

Lazio opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Adam Marusic found the net with a close-range header into the bottom right corner. The assist came from Valentín Castellanos, who received a ball from Isaksen at the far post and set it up perfectly for Marusic to finish.

Lazio secured their second goal in the 57th minute, making it 2-0. Pedro found the net with a precise left-footed shot into the bottom left corner, thanks to an assist from Valentín Castellanos. It was a swift play by Lazio, with Castellanos setting up Pedro, who calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.

Monza is facing some serious challenges! Lazio is in control, and in the 62nd minute, they lead 3-0. Valentín Castellanos found the net with a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner. The assist came from Mattia Zaccagni, who created space on the left before delivering a perfect pass to Castellanos in the middle. With a gentle touch, Castellanos placed the ball just to the left of Pizzignacco.

Lazio delivered an impressive 4-0 victory in the 77th minute. Pedro found the net with a left-footed strike to the bottom right corner, thanks to an assist from Tijjani Noslin. The play involved a clever triangle with Tchouna and Noslin, who set up Pedro perfectly in the center. The Spaniard took a quick shot and sent the ball into the back of the net. What a performance! Pedro netted two goals in this match—talk about motivation!

Monza managed to score a consolation goal in the 86th minute, bringing the score to 4-1. Stefano Sensi stepped up to take the penalty, striking it with his right foot into the bottom right corner. The penalty was awarded after Manuel Lazzari committed a handball in the box.

In a thrilling finish, Lazio secured their victory in the 88th minute, ending the match at 5-1! Fisayo Dele-Bashiru delivered a fantastic left-footed strike to the top right corner, assisted by Nicolò Rovella.

Pedro’s exceptional performance, highlighted by two goals, secured him the “MVP” Panini Player of the match!

Pedro is overjoyed with his two goals that propelled Lazio to a 5-1 win. He’s even more excited about reclaiming fourth place, which brings in three vital points. The whole team put in a fantastic performance.

✅   Stats before the game:

Lazio remains unbeaten in their last five Serie A encounters with Monza, securing three wins and two draws. The only teams against which the Biancocelesti have had a longer streak without a loss in the league are Frosinone, Mantova, Reggiana, Sampierdarenese, and Spezia, none of which are part of the 2024/25 Serie A season.

Lazio is struggling at home against teams from Lombardy in Serie A, having failed to secure a win in their last six encounters (D3 L3). This is their worst performance since a nine-game winless streak from January 1985 to January 1990. However, they have managed to win two of their last three Serie A matches (L1), matching the number of victories they achieved in their previous seven games (D2 L3). The Biancocelesti haven’t won back-to-back Serie A matches since a five-game winning streak between October and November.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Hellas Verona, 18th position with 20 points and a negative goal difference of -23
Monza, 20th position with 13 points and a negative goal difference of -13

In a surprising turn of events, Hellas Verona triumphed over Monza with a 1-0 win in Serie A Week 23 on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the U-Power Stadium in Monza, Italy. This victory allows Verona to move up in the tightly packed standings, while Monza finds itself in a challenging predicament following this defeat.

The situation is becoming increasingly dire for the Brianza team. The only goal of the match came from an unfortunate own goal in the first half, which secured the three points for Verona. After a first half that lacked excitement, the yellow and blues had numerous opportunities to increase their lead in the second half, but Zanetti’s team couldn’t capitalize on them. Monza’s final push proved fruitless, and the match ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of Hellas.

Stats proving that Monza haven’t managed to achieve back-to-back home wins in the league since November 2022, with their last consecutive win coming against Hellas Verona. On the other hand, Hellas Verona has drawn two of their last four league matches, losing the other two, including their latest game against Venezia, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Penzo. This is the same number of draws they had in their previous 26 top-flight games, where they recorded 9 wins, 2 draws, and 15 losses. The Gialloblù haven’t had two consecutive draws in Serie A since February 2024, with their first draw in that sequence also being against Monza.

Monza had a rough beginning as Hellas Verona scored first in the 11th minute. It was an own goal by Stefan Lekovic! Trying to get ahead of his rival, he accidentally sent the ball into his own net, leaving goalkeeper Stefano Turati with no chance.

✅  Stats before the game:

Hellas Verona is the team that Monza has faced the most in Serie A without suffering a defeat, boasting three victories and two draws in their five encounters with the Gialloblù. Following their impressive first-leg win without allowing any goals (3-0 on October 21), Hellas Verona could become the fifth team against which Monza has achieved a clean sweep in both seasonal Serie A matches, joining Juventus and Spezia from the 2022/23 season, as well as Sassuolo and Salernitana in 2023/24.

Monza has also managed to keep a clean sheet in both of their home matches against Hellas Verona at the U-Power Stadium, winning 2-0 on November 6, 2022, and drawing 0-0 on February 11, 2024. No other team has more home clean sheets in the league than Monza, who also recorded two against Salernitana.
