Juventus making the official announcement that Andrea Pirlo is the new Juventus Coach replacing Coach Maurizio Sarri. The announcement was made on Saturday 8 August 2020. Pirlo, 41-years-old and born in Flero in the province of Brescia, signed a two-year contract until 30 June 2022.
Pirlo has had a legendary career as a player including with AC Milan where he is considered one the top legends Pirlo has won from the Champions League to the World Cup in 2006 with the Italian National team. In his four years with Juventus as a player, Pirlo won as many league titles, a Coppa Italia and two Italian Super Cups.
As reported by Juventus Official website, “Today, begins a new chapter of his career in the world of football, as it was said almost a week ago: from Maestro to Mister. From today he will be THE coach for people of Juventus, as the club has decided to entrust him with the technical leadership of the First Team, after having already selected him for Juventus Under 23. Today’s choice is based on the belief that Pirlo has what it takes to lead from his debut on the bench, an expert and talented squad to pursue new successes.”
Juventus making the official announcement sacking Coach Maurizio Sarri after one season on Saturday 8 August 2020. Sarri was sacked a day after the elimination in the Champions League Round of 16. Sarri won the 2019-2020 Serie A Scudetto with 83 points having only +1 point above Inter with 82 points in the 2nd position.
Juventus suffered during this season not being the consistent dominant. Sarri deluded the team and fans. We might consider the high expectation with poor results. Sarri was signed on a three-year contract, but one season was enough to part ways. Juventus claimed their 9th consecutive Scudetto on Week 36 after defeating Sampdoria. Ironically, Juventus lost their last 2 games ending with a sour note the last game of the season at the Allianz Stadium with a score of Juventus 1 – 3 AS Roma. Making matters worst, Juventus also defeated by Napoli in the Coppa Italia final. Simply put, the poor results in top games Champions League and Coppa Italia were a flop, a failure.
“The club would like to thank the coach for having written a new page in Juventus’ history with the victory of the ninth-consecutive championship, the culmination of a personal journey that led him to climb all the divisions of Italian football.”
Juventus win the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 game against Lyon Second Leg on Friday 7 August 2020 at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Italy. They aggregate result is Juventus 2-2 Lyon and the away goal gives Lyon the qualification to the Quarterfinals against Manchester City. This is a major failure for Juventus. Personally, I am so devastated with this elimination. At least, my guy, Mr. Champions League Cristiano Ronaldo scored 2 goals for Juventus…. what went wrong? Sacking Sarri?
