🏆👉 The United States of America qualified to the Round of 16 after winning the FIFA World Cup Group B against Iran on Tuesday 29 November 2022 at the Al Thumama Stadium in Al Thumama, Qatar. The United States snatched the pass to the round of 16 thanks to the goal of Christian Pulisic. Overall, the USA deserved the victory, despite winning by the slightest margin, maintaining 51%. The United States will meet the Netherlands in the Round of 16.

The United States of America (USA) opened the score in the 38th minute. Christian Pulisic defeated Iran goalkeeper from very close range with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by AC Milan player Sergiño Dest.

This is the first meeting between Iran and the United States in any competition since January 2000, with the two teams drawing 1-1 in a friendly match in California.  Iran beat the United States 2-1 in the sides’ only previous match at the World Cup, with that win leading to the United States’ elimination from the 1998 World Cup in France. 🏆👉 Brazil win the FIFA World Cup Group G defeating Switzerland on Monday 28 November 2022 at the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium (Stadium 974) in Doha, Qatar. Brazil are following up on the good victory of the opening match, against Serbia. This victory means access to the Round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup. Switzerland also comes from the success in the debut match, against Cameroon. Yet, they remain with 3 points. Brazil remain unbeaten in 17 matches in the World Cup group stage – no team has ever avoided defeat in 17 consecutive games at this stage.

I must admit the match didn’t see a total dominion and Brazil struggled. However, in the last 10 minutes of the game, Casemiro kicked a spectacular shot out of the hat for goalkeeper Sommer, who decided the match.

🏆👉 Cameroon and Serbia ended the FIFA World Cup Group G with a draw on Monday 28 November 2022 at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, Qatar.  In the first half, it was all Cameroon who found the initial lead on a corner kick with Jean-Charles Castelletto. Serbia then scored twice in the space of three minutes. First through Strahinja Pavlović and then through Lazio player Sergej Milinković-Savić. The start of the second half was a continuation of the closure of the first half, with Serbia’s 3-1 scored by Aleksandar Mitrović. Then, it seems Cameroon returned with a full tank and managed to draw with Vincent Aboubakar author of a goal and a winning assist for Eric Choupo-Moting.  Cameroon and Serbia will now have to watch what will happen in the match between Brazil and Switzerland, waiting for the last day, in which in any case they will be forced to seek victory.

This was almost like a “Serie A game”  with many players from Serie A in both teams.  Serbia started with five Serie A players in the starting eleven and six other players from this championship sitting on the bench. Cameroon has met Serbia for the first time in all competitions since the Serbs won a 4-3 friendly in June 2010.

Serbia equalized in the 45+1 minute. Strahinja Pavlović equalized defeating Cameroon goalkeeper with a headed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Dušan Tadić.

Cameroon is back from eight consecutive World Cup defeats in four editions (2002, 2010, 2014 and 2022). With another knockout he would equal the longest ever consecutive defeat streak for a national team at the World Cup, that of Mexico between 1930 and 1958 (nine defeats in a row).
