Coman: “Scudetto, an immense satisfaction”

The young Frenchman outlines his happiness at claiming Italy’s top prize following this evening’s 1-1 Serie A stalemate with Cagliari at Juventus Stadium

Kingsley Coman says winning the Scudetto has been the icing atop the Bianconeri cake as he comes to the end of his first season in Turin.

The 18-year-old, who played the full 90 minutes of this evening’s 1-1 stalemate with Cagliari at Juventus Stadium, has enjoyed a fruitful campaign since his move from PSG last July, contributing a goal in 18 appearances for Massimiliano Allegri’s men.

Speaking to Sky Sport pitchside following today’s draw, he began: “It’s immensely satisfying to win the Scudetto straightaway in my first season.

“I’m very happy to be here. We are a team blessed with champions, and it wasn’t easy to find much game time.”

Attentions now evidently turn to Juventus’ Champions League semi-final second leg with Real Madrid on Wednesday evening, as the club endeavour to make the final of Europe’s elite competition for the first time since 2003.

And Coman, who made his European debut against Borussia Dortmund in February, gave a quick preview regarding this week’s mouthwatering match-up.

“Now we’ll aim to get through our Champions League semi-final second leg in Madrid and reach the final.

“What’s our game plan at the Bernabeu? It’s not my place to say, I’ll leave that to the boss.”

Pogba strikes comeback goal in draw with Cagliari

The returning French midfielder pounces on the stroke of half-time to put Juventus in front against the Rossoblu. Luca Rossettini rescues a point for the visitors five minutes from the end

Paul Pogba capped a strong return to first-team action by netting a first-half goal in this evening’s 1-1 draw against Cagliari at Juventus Stadium, with Luca Rossettini salvaging a point late on for the visitors.

With a 33rd Scudetto title already wrapped up courtesy of last weekend’s win over Sampdoria, the Bianconeri ran out into a carnival atmosphere at a Juventus Stadium basking in glorious summer sunshine.

But while the feeling in the stands was celebratory, Juventus were in no mood to take their foot off the accelerator and went in front through a Pogba strike that looped past a motionless Zeljko Brkic on the stroke of half time.

Relegation-threatened Cagliari, however, refused to throw in the towel and earned an equaliser their spirited display merited when Rossettini tapped over the line from a matter of yards after seeing an initial header bounce back off the post.

The French midfielder gave the Bianconeri faithful an early taste of what they had been missing with a mazy run forward and subsequent free-kick that fizzed just wide of the post on just three minutes.

A tame Diego Farias effort aside, stopped comfortably by Marco Storari at his near post, it was Juventus who enjoyed most of the early exchanges and another Pogba exploit, this time a delicious dink into the penalty box, saw a chance come and go for Alessandro Matri, who was unable to drag the ball from under his feet and dispatch a clean strike on goal.

To their credit, Cagliari, who approached the game on the back of two wins in their last three, began to probe for a few openings of their own, with the pace of Farias drawing a number of Storari dashes from his line and one particular last-ditch intervention from Andrea Barzagli.

These forays into Bianconeri territory were soon counteracted by an increasing presence in the Cagliari final third, where attempts from Kingsley Coman and Pogba went close to establishing the lead.

It seemed as if it would be a matter of time before Pogba finally got the breakthrough his determination deserved, and this persistence paid off on the stroke of half time when he gathered Simone Padoin’s square ball and unleashed a shot from the edge of the area that took a deflection and spun past a stranded Brkic.

The second half yielded further Juventus dominance, although they were dealt a let off just shy of the hour mark when Luca Rossettini planted his header over after rising highest in the area to meet Joao Pedro’s free-kick.

Fresh legs in the form of Stefano Sturaro and Paolo De Ceglie joined the action either side of the hour mark in place of Marchisio and Pogba respectively, but it was a man returning to the starting line-up, Romulo, who fashioned the next chance to extend the scoreline, lashing just wide of the post after picking up the pieces from a knockdown on the edge of the area.

Cagliari turned the screw in the closing stages as they bid to fashion something from the encounter and grabbed an equaliser when Rossettini poked the ball over the line from close range after seeing his initial header denied by the woodwork.

They could even have nicked it in injury time when second-half substitute Marco Sau blazed over from point-blank range in what proved to be the last goalmouth action of the encounter.

With Serie A action put to one side for the time being, attentions will now immediately turn to the Bianconeri’s biggest game of the season so far: Wednesday night’s Champions League semi-final return leg against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Three key Rossoblu men to watch out for

Ahead of this evening’s Serie A encounter in Turin, Juventus.com casts a glance over Cagliari trio Albin Ekdal, Diego Farias and Marco Sau

Cagliari, who have been Serie A mainstays since the 2004/05 season, have endured a difficult campaign and currently sit 18th with only four games to play.

A topsy-turvy term has seen Gianfranco Zola and Zdenek Zeman (twice) fired for their poor spells, with Gianluca Festa the latest candidate tasked with keeping them up for a tenth straight year.

And in order to be in with a shout of staying among the big boys, the Rossoblu need to try and claim maximum points from their remaining encounters.

But it’ll be no easy feat up against the Bianconeri given that the Sardinians’ last success on Turin soil, a dramatic 3-2 victory, came back in January 2009. Since then, they have collected only two points from a possible 30 on offer when facing the Old Lady.

However, two wins in their previous three Serie A encounters, versus Fiorentina (3-1) and Parma (4-0), see them approach tonight’s domestic meeting in good form.

Juventus.com profiles the key Cagliari trio Albin Ekdal, Diego Farias and Marco Sau who will look to pull off a shock result at the home of the newly-crowned league champions.

Name: Albin Ekdal
Age:
25
Position:
Central midfielder

Versatile Swedish international and former Bianconero Ekdal is able to play in a variety of positions behind the striker.

The 25-year-old, who hails from Stockholm, spent two terms at Juventus, with whom he made his Serie A debut in a 2-1 reverse at the hands of Napoli seven years ago. He would go on to make only two more appearances in the black and white jersey before leaving in 2010.

Now in his fourth season with the Sardinians, Ekdal has scored five goals (four of which have come away from home) – as many as he had netted before in his top flight career.

The former Siena man proved the star of the show during Cagliari’s trip to Inter earlier on in the campaign, bagging a hat-trick in a surprise 4-1 victory at the San Siro.

Name: Diego Farias
Age:
24
Position:
Attacking midfielder/Forward/Winger

Having arrived on loan from Serie A rivals Chievo at the start of the season, Farias has brought fresh attacking impetus to a Rossoblu outfit who struggled for goals last season.

Born in Sorocaba, the Brazilian’s dynamic and offensive nature saw him flourish in the second and third tiers of Italian football.

Now 24, he’ll be hoping to kick on and establish himself as a household name after finally making the step up to the top flight.

With six goals and three assists this term, Farias’ endeavour has seen him become one of Cagliari’s key contributors as the Sardinians look to avoid relegation to Serie B.

Name: Marco Sau
Age:
27
Position:
Forward

Diminutive forward Sau has pace to burn and possesses the ability to thread killer passes for his team-mates.

Adept with either foot, the 27-year-old has acted as the key cog in the Cagliari machine over the years, and with five goals and four assists this season, has been earmarked as one of their main men.

The Rossoblu youth graduate, whose idol is club legend and former boss Zola, enjoyed fruitful loan spells at Foggia and Juve Stabia earlier on in his career which aided his development.

One for trivia buffs, Sau made his Azzurri debut as a substitute in a 4-0 friendly victory over neighbouring San Marino at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara back in August 2013.
