Verso l’Europeo. Con Trotta e Verdi gli Azzurrini pareggiano in casa della Germania
Contro la Germania non è mai un’amichevole. Carattere e personalità, l’Italia se la gioca alla pari contro la favorita del torneo. E, oltre al pareggio, porta a casa un’ottima prestazione. Dopo un avvio sofferto, sblocca il risultato con uno splendido gol di Marcello Trotta al 38’ del primo tempo. Pareggiano i tedeschi all’inizio della ripresa, ma è ancora la squadra di Di Biagio a dettare regole e gioco e a passare di nuovo in vantaggio con Simone Verdi, entrato da poco. Una traversa, un paio di occasioni azzurre e poi il 2-2 firmato dai tedeschi su rigore.
A tre mesi abbondanti dall’ultima partita ufficiale giocata a Matera contro la Danimarca, l’Under 21 si presenta con Bardi in porta, in difesa da destra Zappacosta, Rugani, Bianchetti, Biraghi, a centrocampo Berardi e Battocchio esterni, Sturaro e Crisetig centrali, in attacco la coppia Belotti-Trotta.
Lutto al braccio per le due squadre e minuto di silenzio in memoria delle vittime della tragedia aerea del 24 marzo. Partono forti i padroni di casa, aggressivi e rapidi, costringendo agli straordinari la difesa azzurra nei primi quindici minuti. L’Italia non riesce a sfruttare la fascia destra dove Zappacosta e Berardi sono costretti a tenere la posizione per arginare il pressing dei tedeschi. Che, però, dura poco. Gli Azzurrini si chiudono, pronti a colpire al momento opportuno. Dopo un tiro insidioso di Trotta neutralizzato al 24’ da Terstegen e uno di prima intenzione di Sturaro terminato alto, l’Under passa al 38’: punizione di Berardi e grande stacco di testa di Trotta sul secondo palo che prende la difesa tedesca in contropiede. Il primo tempo termina con la Germania in attacco, ma Bardi è pronto alla deviazione.
Nella ripresa Di Biagio manda subito in campo Romagnoli al posto di Rugani. Passano sei minuti e l’Italia si trova sui piedi la palla del raddoppio, ma Sturaro colpisce male. All’11’ una respinta corta nell’area piccola, favorisce l’intervento di Bittencourt che mette alle spalle di Bardi. Sul pareggio altre tre sostituzioni per gli Azzurrini: escono Belotti, Crisetig e Zappacosta, entrano Verdi, Cataldi e Sabelli.
Partita vera, intensa. Ancora Bardi al 22’ risponde alla grande ad un’incursione dei padroni di casa. C’è spazio anche per l’ingresso di Benassi e Longo (29’) al posto di Battocchio e Trotta prima del 2-1 dell’Italia firmato da uno dei nuovi entrati, Simone Verdi, che al 33’ di interno infila sul primo palo. Quattro minuti dopo lo stesso Verdi colpisce la traversa e a breve distanza Longo sciupa una grossa opportunità. Dal possibile 3-1 si passa al 2-2 dopo un fallo da rigore fischiato dall’arbitro Raczkowski e trasformato da Leitner.
Soddisfatto a metà il tecnico Di Biagio: “All’inizio abbiamo sofferto il loro palleggio – spiega l’allenatore azzurro – e abbiamo sbagliato qualcosa. Sul finire del primo tempo siamo cresciuti, abbiamo trovato il gol e poi creato diverse occasioni. Non dimentichiamoci che abbiamo incontrato la Germania, però sono soddisfatto a metà…. Dobbiamo cercare di giocare meglio per raggiungere il livello di queste squadre che sono il top, anche se noi ci stiamo arrivando”.

With less than two months left before the start of the European Championship, there is no time for experiments: “Last time I met my players was four months ago, which is isn’t ideal. There is no time to try things out, we will have to try and work on the aspects we have been working on so far. I know some of my players might have some difficulties if we stick to our typical formation but we will focus on the group’s development rather than on individuals.”
The players will wear black armbands and will observe a one minute silence for the victims of the air crash on 24th March. The Polish referee Pawel Raczkowski will officiate the game. His assistants Marcin Boniek and Michael Obukowicz; Frank Willenborg is the fourth official.

It’s a great day for Italian football. Italy Under 21 team qualifying to the UEFA EURO Under 21 Championship Playoffs to be played from October 8 to 14. Italy defeated Cyprus with a super mega goleada scoring 7 goals against just 1 from Cyprus at the Castel di Sangro. Scoring for Italy Bernardeschi in the 42nd minute. An own goal by Panayioutou in the 45th minute, Stefano Sturaro in the 56th minute, Andrea Belotti in the 62nd minute, Jacopo Dezi in the 70th minute, Samuele Longo in the 76th minute, and Daniele Rugani in the 80th minute.
Italy showing great spirit and reacting on time after being down by the headed goal from Captain Pieros Sotirious in the 29th minute defeating goalkeeper Francesco Bardi. Italy equalizing the score with Federico Bernardeschi also with a headed goal.
The raining goals continuing from the 56th minute with Sturaro…. the rest is history!
Italy Under 21 will be among the top seeds. The draw will be this Friday 12 September in Nyon.
Definitely, a great victory for Coach Luigi Di Biaggio who selected four new players for this match. Di Biaggo using Sabelli on the left and Empoli players Rugani in the middle of the defense next to Bianchetti. News in the midfield included the return of Viviani after his disqualification.
