Argentina’s FIFA World Cup 2026 Squad

Argentina’s FIFA World Cup 2026 Squad

Argentina’s manager, Lionel Scaloni, has officially announced his 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team is determined to defend the title they won at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.  It’s a challenge not met since Brazil successfully retained its title in 1962. Argentina will be competing in Group J, alongside Algeria, Austria, and Jordan.

The squad, known as “La Albiceleste,” includes the legendary Lionel Messi, looking to make history by participating in his sixth World Cup. Among the players, there are two from the Italian Serie A: Inter forward Lautaro Martínez and Como forward Nico Paz.

✅   2 Italian Serie A players among the called-ups.

Inter forward Lautaro Martínez was the top scorer in Serie A, known as “Capocannoniere,” for the 2025-26 season, netting 17 goals and winning this accolade for the second time.   Lautaro serves as the captain of Inter, the reigning champions of Italy. Martínez also led Inter to victory in the Coppa Italia final against Lazio, achieving a domestic double this season. Undoubtedly, Lautaro is a key player for Inter, who will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season. Currently, he ranks as Inter Milan’s third all-time leading goalscorer.

Nico Paz, the 21-year-old forward from Como, is truly living a dream. Under the leadership of manager Cesc Fàbregas, Como 1907 has made history by qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time. The young Argentine attacking midfielder played a crucial role in the club’s remarkable ascent, helping Como finish fourth in Serie A. During the 2025–26 season, Nico Paz scored 12 goals in Serie A, making him the top scorer for his team. Como, who were promoted from Serie B last season, have found their star in Nico Paz.  A standout moment for Paz came on 19 October when he assisted Marc-Oliver Kempf’s opening goal and scored the second goal for his team, leading Como to a victory over Juventus for the first time since 1952.
