France making a comeback after being down by a goal to defeat Republic of Ireland.   France qualifying to the UEFA EURO Quarterfinals thanks to forward Antoine Griezmann author of the 2 goals for France.

It’s a bad start for France!   Imagine, Referee Nicola Rizzoli giving a penalty to the Republic of Ireland in the 1st minute.  On top of that, the penalty was conceded by France / Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba after a foul on forward Shane Long inside the penalty area.  Well, taking the penalty spot is midfielder Robbie Brady… and you guessed it right…. Brady converting the penalty defeating France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris with a left footed shot in  the bottom right corner.   You bet a cold shower was felt among France fans at the stadium.

Game on and France is alive!   In the 58th minute there it is forward Antoine Griezmann equalizing the match defeating Ireland goalkeeper  Darren Randolph with a headed shot in the top left corner.   The assist is by defender Bacary Sagna with a cross.

Saved by Griezmann!!  France taking the lead in the 61st minute!  It’s again Antoine Griezmann to revive the party defeating Ireland goalkeeper with a  left footed shot in the bottom right corner.   The headed assist is by forward Olivier Giroud.

Bernardeschi rejoined the squad for training in Montpellier

The Azzurri trained this morning on the pitch at the Bernard Gasset facility in Montpellier ahead of the round of 16 fixture with Spain which kicks off at 18:00 CEST at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. The session was open to the press for the first 15 minutes after a warm-up where the players engaged in one-touch rondo drills. The team then moved to another pitch at the sports centre to prepare for the match against Del Bosque’s side far away from the cameras.

Antonio Candreva was the only absentee while Federico Bernardeschi was back after taking a precautionary rest the day before. At 17:45 CEST, the players and staff will leave for Paris and at 19:30 the Azzurri will inspect the playing surface at the Stade de France. Coach Antonio Conte and Gigi Buffon are scheduled to take part in a press conference at 20:00.

Training in Montpellier tomorrow morning, departure for Paris at 17:45 CEST

Italy have their final training session at the Bernard Gasset sports centre in Montpellier tomorrow morning at 11:00 before they head to Paris at 17:45 for Monday’s encounter with Spain at the Stade de France in St. Denis (ko 18:00 CEST). The Azzurri will inspect the pitch at 19:30 CEST before Antonio Conte addresses the pre-match press conference at 20:00.

Italian supporters have bought 3,700 tickets for the encounter with Spain and UEFA have sold 57,300 to the general public. 75,900 fans are expected and among them will be FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio, director general Michele Uva and Italian ambassador to France Giandomenico Magliano.
