Bologna won the Coppa Italia Round of 16 on Wednesday 20 December 2023 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy. Bologna continue their positive road after eliminating Cesena and Verona with the same result (2-0).  Bologna overturned the result in four minutes and eliminated Inter the reigning holders and winners of the last two editions of the trophy. Bologna will play the Coppa Italia Quarterfinals for the Apennine derby against Fiorentina. Inter suffered a major blow not only losing at home but also out of the Coppa Italia, there is no treble this season.

Inter had the chance to take the lead in the 65th minute. Lautaro Martínez failed to convert a penalty because Bologna goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia saved his right footed shot in the bottom right corner.

Inter opened the score in the 92nd minute. Carlos Alberto defeated Bologna goalkeeper with a headed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Federico Dimarco with a cross following a corner conceded by Lorenzo De Silvestri.

Bologna equalized in the 112th minute. Sam Beukema defeated Inter goalkeeper with a left-footed shot to the high center. The assist is by Joshua Zirkzee following a corner conceded by Francesco Acerbi.

Incredible, Bologna overturned the score and took the lead in the 116th minute. Dan Ndoye scored with a right-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Joshua Zirkzee.

Stats before the game: Bologna remained unbeaten in their last two matches against Inter, considering all competitions (1W, 1D), after having lost seven of the previous 10 (3W); the rossoblù have not gone three consecutive games without defeat against the Nerazzurri since April 2014.  In the last three home games played by Inter against Bologna, the Nerazzurri have scored 14 goals, an average of 4.7 per match; this is the same number of goals scored by the Lombards in the nine previous home matches against the Emilians (1.6 on average). Inter have won all of the last eight Coppa Italia matches played against Bologna; the Nerazzurri have only had such a long streak of successes in the competition against Genoa (eight also against the Ligurians). Inter is the team faced most times by Bologna in the Italian Cup: in 20 matches the rossoblù have achieved four wins, three draws and suffered 13 defeats – the only team beaten more times by a single opponent in the competition was Inter Inter against Juventus (15). Extra time has been played in five of the last seven Italian Cup round of 16 matches played by Inter; on all these occasions the Nerazzurri went through – the last elimination dates back to 9 January 2014 at the hands of Udinese.

Italian Soccer Serie A

👉    Hello, my friends. Here are the 2023-2024 Italian Serie A Week 16 RESULTS / Sixteenth Round on Friday 15, Saturday 16, Sunday 17, and Monday 18 December 2023.  The battle for the Scudetto remains a two-way race.  The race is very tight between Inter with 41 points and Juventus with 37 points.  Juventus slowed down the race after their draw with Genoa.

AC Milan returned to win defeating Monza with a 3-0.  Milan have now 32 points just -5 points below Juventus and -9 below Inter.   For the moment, we might say the Rossoneri are still dreaming with the Scudetto.

What a flop for Roma falling at the Dall’Ara Stadium losing their 6th position and going down to the 7th position. Surely, it is party time for Bologna with this prestigious victory also representing their 4th place reaching 28 points. Bologna are now in the European zone and will have to keep up their sprint race because Roma will surely increase their speed to regain in the next rounds their standings.

Another flop is for Lazio because they lost their home game beaten by Inter thanks to the goals of King Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram.   Fiorentina also celebrates after beating Hellas Verona.  Fiorentina and Napoli have 27 points just -1 point below Bologna.  Inter are rocking and for the moment they are the absolute leaders making a statement that they want to win the Scudetto.

Atalanta with eighth success of the season in Serie A overtook Roma (25 points) and rose to seventh place in the standings with 26 points, giving continuity to last Saturday’s 3-2 against AC Milan. Salernitana, however, remain in last place in the standings and is now five points away from safety. It’s chaos for Salernitana and they need to start asking for a miracle to survive.
