Universitario 0-1 Fiorentina: Viola win the Copa EuroAmericana for Europe!

Fiorentina have beaten Peruvian outfit Universitario 1-0 in Lima to secure the 2014 Copa EuroAmericana for the European clubs.
The tournament thus ended as it began for Fiorentina: with a victory. Joshua Brillante opened his Viola account with a well-taken first-half effort, following some neat work from Borja Valero and Giuseppe Rossi. It proved to be enough to separate the sides at the Estadio Nacional, as Vincenzo Montella’s troops made their superior technical ability count and remained on top throughout the second half.
The result was decisive in determining the outcome of the competition, which finishes South America 4-5 Europe. Fiorentina lift the cup on behalf of the Old Continent!

Juan Manuel Vargas spoke from Fiorentina’s training base in Lima on the eve of their Copa EuroAmericana clash with Universitario:
“I’m pleased to be able to play in my country. I hope there’ll be a lot of fans in the stadium and that tomorrow’s match will be a showcase for Peruvian football.
“It will be the last match of the Copa EuroAmericana and we hope to contribute to a European victory with a win tomorrow.
“I’m happy and excited that our opponents are the team which I grew up playing for. We’re still in pre-season at the moment and we hope to put in a good performance. We’ll try to show our technical ability and do our utmost to lift the cup.
“Will I ever go back to Universitario? You never know what’s coming in the future but one of my dreams is to end my career playing for the club where I started out.
“Right now I’m only thinking about continuing to work hard so that I’m ready for the start of the season, just like the rest of my team-mates. Our goal is to have a good season in the league and play well in Europe. Our ultimate aim is to qualify for the Champions League – there is no reason why we aren’t capable of that.
“Personally, I hope to play regularly and perhaps add another achievement to my footballing career. Fiorentina are a team on the way up and we must continue to work consistently and with humility – that’s the right path to follow.
“This tour experience is definitely a positive one in terms of understanding where we are with our preparation.”

It is confirmed, Inter, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, have signed striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo to please coach Walter Mazzarri who wanted him since he was coaching Napoli.
Now, get this one, Corriere dello Sport also reporting declarations from Manchester United forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez saying that “Yes, I am ready for Inter.” Mamma mia, so what is President Eric Thohir going to do now? It’s obvious that Osvaldo is the alternative for strikers Mauro Icardi and Rodrigo Palacio. It was a better fit, all three Argentinian strikers continuing the tradition (though Osvaldo naturalized Italian). This leaves an open question now.. Will Chicharito’s transfer remain only a rumor? What a tough situation for Chicharito….. Transfer market news also for AC Milan still hunting for a goalkeeper. And how they need it!!!!! … Napoli awaiting for Fellaini on Saturday… And I am so upset because midfielder Valon Behrami leaves Napoli to join Hamburg. Oh gosh!

Yep, Italy’s champions with new coach Massimiliano Allegri not sending a strong message to this current season. The other sad news is about the ongoing AC Milan crisis having 2 big defeats in the United States against Olympiacos and Manchester City. Challenge for coach Filippo Inzaghi is to prepare the last game against Liverpool at least to win 1 game in the International Champions Cup.
Ok, now, allow me to jump and do a special cheerleading for AS Roma! Oh yeah! Wohoooooooooooooooo The Roman gladiators led by the one and only Captain Francesco Totti defeated Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup!!!!!! BAM!

Montella’s Viola lost their second Copa EuroAmericana game against Palmeiras at São Paulo’s Estadio do Pacaembu on Wednesday night, despite producing a good overall performance.
The host side established a two-goal lead in the first period, Olivera and Leandro on target.
After the break Giuseppe Rossi made his long-awaited entrance and it took him just 10 minutes to get back into his old habits. The Italy forward raced on to Babacar’s smart through ball before finishing with aplomb.
