Hello, my friends. Here are the 2019-2020 Serie A Week 34 RESULTS / Thirty-fourth Round on Saturday 18, Sunday 19, and Monday 20 July 2020.

The big battle between Juventus and Lazio is won by Juventus 2-1.    The Scudetto is getting closer and closer.  Juventus with 80 points having  a +8 lead over Inter with 72 points and there are only 4 more games.   Cristiano Ronaldo becoming the top scorer of the Serie A with Ciro Immobile having 30 goals each.   Juventus grabbed this important home victory almost “securing the Scudetto.”  Cristiano scoring the 2 goals for Juventus and Immobile 1 for Lazio.

The first sentence to the relegation zone is done!  Sadly, SPAL, mathematically speaking, is already relegated to the Serie B next season after losing the game Brescia 2 – 1 SPAL.  It is a sour result because not only SPAL lose the game, but also said goodbye to the Serie A.   SPAL with 19 points, so far, won only  5 games, 4 draws, and losing their 25th game!!!   The victory gives Brescia a ray of hope for salvation, though, it will be difficult.  Brescia remain in the 19th position with 24 points.

AS Roma slowing down Inter on their quest to claim the away victory at the Olimpico Stadium.  The game ended with a 2-2 draw giving Inter 72 points and Roma  58 points.  Inter, for the moment, hold the second position.  However, Inter might lose the second position in the next game because the race is tight.  Inter (72), Atalanta (71)   …..  Roma risk losing the 5th position in the next game being only +2 points above Napoli and AC Milan with 56 points each.  Simply put, a painful draw for Roma having the victory until the 88th minute and let it go.

Napoli rocking claiming the home victory defeating Udinese with a 2-1.   The pressure was too much for Udinese to cause an upset after taking the lead and to lose in the agonizing 95th minute while Napoli celebrate this home victory reaching 56 points sharing the spot with AC Milan also with 56 points after defeating Bologna with a 5-1.  AC Milan looking to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.  AC Milan winning 16 games compared to Bologna winning 11 games this season.

Fiorentina defeated Torino with a 2-0 at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.  Technically, Fiorentina might consider themselves safe to remain in Serie A next season reaching 42 points.   Torino remaining with 37 points.

A draw with a sense of failure is for Atalanta ending with a 1-1 draw at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium.  Atalanta could have taken the second position had they won the match remaining in the 3rd position with 71 points.  Atalanta are -2 points below Inter with 72 points in the second position.  Atalanta were favorites to win the match and failed to keep the lead. Hellas Verona claiming at least one golden point after equalizing causing an upset to Atalanta on their objective to climb the Standing. The situation might change next week.

Commisso: "Really pleased with the win"

Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso spoke of his satisfaction following the Viola’s 2-0 win over Torino at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday night.

“I’m really pleased with the win tonight,” said Commisso. “Well done to the players, the coach and all the staff. We’ve hit our first target with four games to spare and we already have more points than last season. Now we need to try to keep this up for the next four games and look to keep climbing the table. I’m delighted that we’ve won in Florence again, albeit without our magnificent fans. This is win is also dedicated to them.”

Five things you need to know about Fiorentina v Torino

Fiorentina welcome Torino to the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday evening as they look to extend their unbeaten run in Serie A to five games. And ahead of the 19:30 CEST kick-off, we’ve put together this list of five key stats and facts on the game…

1.    Fiorentina and Torino have faced off in Florence on 77 occasions: 70 in Serie A (32 wins, 29 draws and nine defeats for the Viola, 105 goals scored to 61 conceded), one in Serie B (the 1-0 win on 5 June 2004, Mattia Graffiedi with the goal) and six in the Coppa Italia (four wins, one draw, one defeat for Fiorentina). In total, Fiorentina’s home record against Torino reads 37 wins, 30 draws and 10 defeats, with 121 goals scored against 67 conceded.

2.    Fiorentina’s first Serie A win at home over Torino came in the 1931/32 season, on 25 October 1931, as part of Week 6 of the league season. Back then, the stadium was known as the Stadio Giovanni Berti – the same arena that would later be renamed the Stadio Comunale and, eventually, the Stadio Artemio Franchi. It ended in a 4-2 win for Fiorentina, courtesy of goals from Antonio Busini, Gastone Prendato, Pedro Petrone and Raffaele Rivolo. Gino Rossetti and Luigi Cabrini scored for the visitors. Incidentally, Fiorentina’s most recent league win over Torino at home took place on 25 October 2017 – exactly 86 years after their first. The Viola won 3-0 that day, with Marco Benassi, Giovanni Simeone and Khouma Babacar grabbing the goals.
3.    On the subject of big wins, in the 1958/59 season Fiorentina beat Torino by an aggregate score of 10-0 over the home and away matches. The Viola were coached by experienced Hungarian boss Lajos Czeizler that season. Kurt Hamrin was in lethal form against the Granata in both games, scoring six goals in total – including a hat-trick in Florence on 28 May 1959, part of a 4-0 win for the Viola. Torino – who were actually known as Talmone Torino (after a Turinese chocolate factory) that season – ended up finishing bottom of the table and slipping into Serie B. The sponsorship agreement with Talmone, which was originally due to last three years, was cancelled at the end of the campaign. However, it’s worth pointing out some of the talent in that Torino team: Enzo Bearzot, who would coach Italy to World Cup glory in Spain in 1982, and Giuseppe Virgili, who had won the Scudetto with Fiorentina three years previously. For Fiorentina, the 1958/59 season was a record-breaking one: the side scored 95 goals in total, setting a record for goals scored in an 18-team season that has yet to be broken. The Viola finished the season in second place, just three points behind champions AC Milan, despite dominating for much of the campaign and raising hopes that the team could win the title once again.
4.    Torino haven’t won a league game in Florence since 31 October 1976, when a 78th-minute goal from Francesco Graziano game them a 1-0 win. That was the famous season when Juventus won the title with 51 points (a record tally for a 16-team season), with Torino one point behind in second and Fiorentina – led by Carlo Mazzone – a respectable third. In the 44 years since that game, Torino have played Fiorentina in Florence 30 times in Serie A and B, mustering just 14 draws and 16 defeats and only scoring 18 goals to Fiorentina’s 51. Torino did beat Fiorentina in Florence in the Coppa Italia last 16 on 17 December 2008: a 1-0 victory secured by Rolando Bianchi’s goal in the first half, which was enough to see the Granata through to the semi-finals.
5.    The last Fiorentina v Torino match-up in Serie A took place on 31 March 2019 and ended in a 1-1 draw. Giovanni Simeone scored for the Viola, with Daniele Baselli getting the visitors’ goal. In the game in Turin earlier this season, Torino – still led at that point by Walter Mazzarri, before his sacking and replacement by Moreno Longo – beat Fiorentina 2-1 courtesy of goals from Simone Zaza and Cristian Ansaldi (Martin Caceres scored for the Viola). Fiorentina were still under the stewardship of Vincenzo Montella at that point, but the Torino game proved to be Montella’s final away game in charge. Fiorentina followed up the Torino defeat with a 1-1 draw with Inter and a 4-1 defeat to Roma, both at home, after which Montella was sacked and replaced by Beppe Iachini.

Aquilani named new Primavera coach

ACF Fiorentina can confirm that Alberto Aquilani will take charge of the Primavera squad for the 2020/21 season.

Aquilani came up through the youth academy at Roma and won the 2006/07 and 2007/08 Coppa Italia titles with the club, in addition to the Italian Super Cup in 2007. Aquilani also played for Liverpool, Juventus, AC Milan, Fiorentina and Sporting Clube de Portugal, where we won the Portuguese Super Cup in 2015.

During his time as a Fiorentina player, Aquilani made 81 appearances for the Viola and scored 13 goals.
Aquilani was the coach of the Fiorentina U18 side in the first part of the 2019/20 season, before moving up with work with the first team as part of Beppe Iachini’s coaching set-up.
