👉Champions League, Inter and Milan win, eighth-finals one step away
Europe here we are

Against Sparta (0-1) Lautaro decides again.
Now with Monaco just one point is enough
Inzaghi: “It wasn’t a given.”

Leao scores a heavy goal, Girona is knocked out (1-0)
Walker arrives today
Gimenez is ready (and scores 2 goals against Bayern)

👉Juve’s moves
Kolo Muani is ready
Veiga’s move

👉Vlasic exclusive
“My Torino is a team with a heart of steel”

👉Europa League: the Romans attack
Roma, Dutch test, Lazio for the top spot
Ranieri with AZ Alkmaar (18:45), Real Sociedad at the Olimpico (21)

👉In Australia he overwhelms De Minaur and goes to the semifinals
Cyclone Sinner
Tomorrow with Shelton who eliminated Sonego

Front Page Corriere dello Sport, Thursday 23 January 2025

👉Inzaghi wins 1-0 in Prague, Conceição beats Girona 1-0
There’s room for three
Inter and Milan in the eighth-finals like Gasp

Champions League, three Italian clubs in the top eight in one round of the maxi-group. Juve, difficult to avoid the playoffs. Lautaro knocks out Sparta. Leao goals. Walker from Ibra. Real’s manita. PSG overturns City: from 0-2 to 4-2. Now Pep would be out.

👉At home to AZ (18:45)
Roma, the right time with Dovbyk-Dybala

Away from home, success has been missing for 9 months. Ranieri: “We want to stay in the Europa League.”

👉At 21 Real Sociedad
Lazio, pass and close
Tatty plus Dia for the top

A point is enough to guarantee the eighth-finals. Baroni: “No calculations.” All the big on the pitch

👉Negotiations with United continue
Manna also reopens the track with Borussia
Garnacho and Adeyemi, Napoli sprint

👉Juve unblocks the attack, Chelsea’s center back for defense
Kolo Muani green light
Veiga is coming

👉PSG’s jewel advances, closes ranks with Parma for the striker
Fiorentina, also Ndour with Man

👉Semifinal in Australia
Sinner overwhelms de Minaur
Now Shelton

Image

Photo: twitter.com/ItalianSerieA

Front Page Tutto Sport, Thursday 23 January 2025

👉Sinner in the semifinals finds Shelton who bends a great Sonego
“I saw a monster”

👉Juve: Muani to Napoli. And there’s Veiga
Kolo, are you thinking about it?

Green light from PSG: in a goal crisis and with Vlahovic increasingly on the sidelines, Motta finally has a new striker. Defense: here’s Chelsea’s Portuguese, also on loan. City’s money for Cambiaso could also bring Hancko.

👉Inter suffers but passes in Prague: 4th
Lautaro = eighth-finals

Against Sparta, fourth 1-0 victory in Europe Qualification is one step away: against Monaco at San Siro, one point is enough

👉Milan beats Girona and is 6th
In the G8 with Leao

Fifth consecutive victory in the Champions League: in a week in Zagreb to confirm themselves among the top 8. The club is still contested.

👉Endless push and pull: Toro risks big
Casadei and Beto, Cairo-style deals

If the offer to Chelsea is not raised, the midfielder goes to Lazio. Distances always considerable with Everton: and the striker looks around. Kouamé: yes to the Granata, but not on loan.

Italian Soccer Serie A supports Serie A teams in the UEFA Champions League

As of Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the UEFA Champions League standings are looking bright for the Serie A teams. The top eight teams will move directly to the Round of 16, while those ranked 9th to 24th will battle it out in knockout round play-offs for the remaining spots. There’s just one more game to go!

Inter, Atalanta, and AC Milan have secured their places in either the Round of 16 or the knockout phase play-offs. Unfortunately, Bologna has been eliminated, but they can take pride in achieving their first-ever victory in the Champions League, which is definitely a reason to celebrate!

  • Currently, the only two teams confirmed in the Round of 16 are Liverpool and Barcelona.

Teams confirmed in the Round of 16 or knockout phase play-offs include Arsenal, Aston Villa, Atalanta, Atleti, Bayern, Brest, Celtic, Dortmund, Feyenoord, Inter, Juventus, Leverkusen, Lille, Milan, Monaco, and Real Madrid.

Teams confirmed as eliminated are Bologna, Crvena Zvezda, Girona, Leipzig, Salzburg, Slovan Bratislava, Sparta Praha, Sturm Graz, and Young Boys.

🏆👉 AC Milan won the UEFA Champions League match against Girona on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the renowned San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy.  . Milan grabs three vital points, inching closer to a direct qualification for the round of 16. The Rossoneri break the deadlock in the first half with a goal from Leao, and Maignan plays a crucial role with several important saves. In the second half, Conceicao’s squad focuses on preserving their lead, only facing a moment of danger when Gil’s impressive goal is disallowed for offside. Girona is eliminated, leaving Milan on the brink of qualification.

AC Milan opened the scoring in the 37th minute when Rafael Leão found the back of the net with a powerful left-footed shot into the top left corner. Ismaël Bennacer provided the assist. Bennacer made a crucial recovery, setting up Leão, who was unmarked on the left. The Portuguese forward then charged forward and fired a shot past Gazzaniga, hitting just under the crossbar!

Stats before the game

Milan has encountered 11 different Spanish teams in European competitions to date, but this will mark their first clash with Girona. Conversely, Girona has yet to face any Italian side in these tournaments. Recently, Milan has triumphed in their last two matches against Spanish teams, with the most recent victory being a 3-1 win away at Real Madrid during matchday four of this tournament.

Interestingly, the Rossoneri have never achieved three straight wins against Spanish opponents in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League. Furthermore, Milan has secured victories in their last four UEFA Champions League matches. In the two previous seasons where the Rossoneri achieved more than five consecutive wins, they advanced to the final (six in a row in 1992-93 and five in 2004-05), although they fell short in both title matches.

Girona has faced a tough start in the UEFA Champions League, losing their first three away matches without finding the back of the net. Historically, the only team to suffer a similar fate by losing their first four games without scoring was Rapid Vienna from 1996 to 2005. This season, Girona has managed to win just one out of six matches in the tournament, with five losses.

The only Spanish side to have lost six games in a single season was Villarreal back in 2011-12. This upcoming match will mark Sérgio Conceição’s debut as Milan’s coach in the UEFA Champions League. The Portuguese manager has a solid record, winning eight of his last ten group stage matches (with two losses), but it’s worth noting that none of Milan’s last three coaches have won their first UCL match with the team, with Massimiliano Allegri being the last to achieve this in the 2010-11 season against Auxerre.
