Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AC Milan, 2nd position with 42 points and a positive goal difference of +18
AS Roma, 6th position with 32 points and a positive goal difference of +10

It’s the first game of 2022 for AC Milan winning the Serie A Week 20 game defeating AS Roma on Thursday 6 January 2022 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy.  Milan with the quest to reclaim the first position while AS Roma need to climb to the top 5 positions.  Surely, AC Milan celebrating the New Year delighting the fans with this precious victory claiming all 3 points reaching 45 points being -1 point below Inter with 46 points.

The negative note for AC Milan is that forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed to convert a penalty in the 94th minute saved by Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio in the bottom left corner.

AC Milan opening the score in the 8th minute.   Referee Chiffi giving a penalty to Milan conceded by AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham after a handball inside the penalty area. It is forward Olivier Giroud to score the first goal of the Rossoneri in 2022 converting the penalty with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner. Goalkeeper Rui Patrício could not save it.

Things are not working out for Roma.  AC Milan increasing the score for the 2-0 in the 17th minute. Junior Messias delivering a left footed shot to the bottom left corner.

✅  Stats before the game.  AC Milan with better stats in Serie A: 77 AC Milan wins, 51 draws and 45 wins for Roma in 173 meetings. Pioli’s side have won their last two league games against Roma: AC Milan haven’t won three in a row against Roma since 1996.  86 matches have been played at the San Siro, with 47 AC Milan wins, 20 draws and 19 Roma victories. The last 18 meetings between the Rossoneri and Giallorossi at San Siro have been evenly matched, with seven wins and four draws.  AC Milan and Roma have already played a Serie A match on Epiphany: in 2004, at Stadio Olimpico, the Rossoneri won 2-1 thanks to a Shevchenko brace.

Motivation is high for AC Milan with another goal in the 82nd minute for the 3-1. It is Rafael Leão to smack a right footed shot to the high center. The assist is by Zlatan Ibrahimović.
