Inter claimed the full bragging rights to rule Milan after winning the Milan Derby. Inter won the Serie A Week 33 game on Monday 22 April 2024 in Milan, Italy. The victory gave Inter the joy to become Italian Champions; they are Italian Champions for the 20th time. Inter beat Milan with a 2-1 thanks go the goals by Acerbi and Thuram. The honor goal for Milan was scored by Fikayo.
Inter also got a record for being the first team to arithmetically win the Scudetto in a city derby in the entire history of the single-group Serie A ( since 1929/30). After more than 100 minutes in total between the first and second half, with three direct expulsions, Inter managed to snatch the three points and obtain the arithmetic victory of the 2023/2024 Scudetto. 🖤💙🖤💙🖤
The goal that opens the match arrived in the 18th minute: on the development of a corner taken by Dimarco towards the near post, Pavard’s shot towards the center arrives where Acerbi heads it past Maignan. At the beginning of the second half, precisely in the 49th minute, Thuram doubled the score; the Nerazzurri striker defends the ball well on the edge of the area on the left, comes back, and shoots with his right foot towards the bottom left corner, scoring his twelfth goal of the championship. In the 80th minute, Milan’s goal arrives, with Tomori achieving the tap-in after a miracle from Sommer on Gabbia. In the end, things heated up, with the referee Colombo being forced to extract three red cards: Theo Hernandez, Dumfries, and Calabria were sent off.
✅ Stats before the game: Inter have won the last five derbies against Milan in all competitions, already a record run for the Nerazzurri against the Rossoneri. More generally, only twice in the history of the Milan derby has one of the two teams achieved six successes in a row: Milan between 1946 and 1948 and between 1911 and 1913. Milan have won only one of the last eight derbies against Inter played as hosts in all competitions (D3, L4): in the most recent league match (3-2 on 3 September 2022) – the last time the The Rossoneri have recorded two home wins in a row against the Nerazzurri in Serie A dating back to 2008. In the event of Inter’s victory in this Derby, the Scudetto will be mathematically awarded at the end of a match between Milan and Inter for the first time in the history of Serie A. In that case the Nerazzurri will win the Scudetto with five matchdays to spare, equaling the Serie A record (five also for Napoli 2022/23, Juventus 2018/19, Inter 2006/07, Fiorentina 1955/56 and Torino 1947/48). Stefano Pioli is the coach who has lost the most matches in the history of the Milan derby in all competitions: nine defeats, all in charge of Milan. Since he has coached the Rossoneri, Milan have won only three of the 14 matches overall against Inter (D2, L9), scoring 12 goals and conceding 29. Milan remained unbeaten in 16 of their last 17 league matches (W12, D4), scoring 37 goals (2.2 on average); the only defeat in the period came against Monza on February 18th.
