Milan’s Esordienti triumphed in Sardinia and the Pulcini defeated Inter to clinch the Scirea Trophy.

MILANO – Here are results and standings of the 1st edition of the Villasimius Football Cup which was won in Sardinia by the Milan’s Esordienti 2004 team.

Group A
Milan 9 points; Como 6, Accademia Vittuone 3, Coaching Calcio Sardegna 0.

Group B
Novara 7 points; Vigor Perconti 5, Inter 4, GSD Villasimius 0.

Group C
Lombardia Uno 9 points; Cagliari 8, Verona 3, ASD Gigi Riva 0.

Group D
Cremonese 9 points; Bologna 4, Leo Team 2, Castiadas 1.

MILAN – VIGOR PERCONTI   2-0

A victory and a draw in the elimination round and two 2-0 successes, one in the semi-finals against Atalanta and one in the final against Inter. This was the run of Milan’s Pulcini 2007 team, coached by Biffi and Volontieri, towards the triumph in the Scirea Tournament.

RINO GATTUSO: “WE DON’T HAVE TO THROW AWAY THE ITALIAN TRADITION”

MILAN – Adriano Galliani was also present in the conference room of the Lega Serie A headquarters in via Rosellini, Milan. During his interview, Rino Gattuso added: “Throughout the years, Italian Football have put aside their goalkeeper tradition, their ability in marking one’s man, and this is a mistake in my opinion. Not everything in our football is to be thrown out the window seeing as we have won 4 World Cups. We have to restore our football tradition, starting from the coaches who come up from Coverciano. This is also a reason to be proud of, it means we are doing well.”

 

RINO GATTUSO: “ITALIAN FOOTBALL NEEDS MILAN AND INTER”

MILAN – This is what Rino Gattuso had to say at the Lega Serie A headquarters, just before leaving for Rome where, along with Fabio Cannavaro, he will bring the TIM Cup trophy, ahead of the final between Milan and Juventus: “My opinion is that to be back to winning ways in Europe and to get advantage from this, Italian football needs Milan and Inter to be competitive again.”

NEXT OPPONENTS BOLOGNA: COACH DONADONI “A GOOD IMPRESSION AGAINST MILAN”

MILAN – This is what Bologna coach, Roberto Donadoni, had to say ahead of Saturday’s clash with Milan, during the post-match interview at Empoli yesterday, after they mathematically secured their status in Serie A:

“I’m happy for how we played. I expected a performance like that from my players. This is the only confirmation after the win over Genoa, it is a pity we weren’t clinical enough in attack, but the opposition was very solid and frustrated us. I liked the positive approach shown from the very start. On Saturday we will take on Milan who reacted well against Frosinone and who have top quality players: whether we are mathematically safe or not, we all want to end the season in the best position possible and we especially want to make a good impression in front of our supporters in the last game at Dall’Ara.”
