🏆👉 Argentina win the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 against Australia on Saturday 3 December 2022 at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium (Al-Rayyan) in Al Rayyan, Qatar. For Argentina, now, the Quarter-final against the Netherlands.   Argentina delighted millions of fans worldwide. The victory thanks to the goals by Lionel Messi and Julián Álvarez. Argentina continue their adventure. Australia salute this World Cup playing with determination but not enough to win. The honor goal for Australia was scored by Craig Goodwin.

Argentina-Australia is also a very special match for Lionel Messi. Messi crosses the finish line of 1,000 matches as a professional footballer. For him, it is match number 169 with the Seleccion shirt – of which he has long held the absolute record – to which are added the 778 matches played with Barcelona and 53 with Paris Saint-Germain. The matches played with Barça B and those with Argentina’s national youth teams, including the Olimpica team, are excluded from the count.

  •  Italian Serie A players called up in this game

🇦🇷 Argentina:  Leandro Paredes (Juventus) listed as a substitute
Angel Di Maria (Juventus) listed as a substitute
Lautaro Martinez (Inter) played from the 71st minute after replacing Julián Álvarez.
Paulo Dybala (Roma) listed as a substitute

🇦🇺 Australia:  Fran Karacic (Brescia) played from the 72nd minute after replacing Milos Degenek
Ajdin Hrustic (Hellas Verona) played from the 58th minute after replacing Keanu Baccus

Sports, Football, Soccer, World Cup

Argentina opened the score in the 35th minute. Forward Lionel Messi defeated Australia goalkeeper Mathew Ryan with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Nicolás Otamendi.

Argentina scored again. Julián Álvarez scored in the 57th minute with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Australia shortened the distance in the 77th minute. Craig Goodwin defeated Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez with a left footed shot to the bottom right corner.

✅     Stats before the game. This is Argentina’s first meeting with Australia since September 2007 friendly, which Argentina won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Martin Demichelis. It is also the first-ever World Cup crossing between these two national teams. Australia’s only win against Argentina in seven games (D1 L5) came in July 1988 in the Australia Bicentenary Gold Cup: 4-1 with goals from Paul Wade, Charlie Yankos (2), and Vlado Bozinoski. Current manager Graham Arnold also played in that game for the Socceroos. This will be Australia’s fifth World Cup match against South American opponents – the Socceroos have never won in the previous four (D1 L3). Argentina’s only precedents with a team from Oceania concern the seven matches against Australia, none of which was as said at the World Cup.  Argentina was eliminated in the round of 16 at the 2018 World Cup, losing to eventual winners France. The South American national team has never gone out before the quarter-finals in two consecutive World Cups since the round of 16 was introduced in 1986; the last time Seleccion went out before the quarter-finals in two consecutive World Cups was in 1958-1962 (eliminated in the first round of the groups both times).

🏆👉 Lineup ARGENTINA (4-3-3): Dibu Martinez; Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Acuna; De Paul, Enzo Fernandez, Mac Allister; Messi, Julian Alvarez, Papu Gomez.

🏆👉 Lineup  AUSTRALIA (4-4-2): Ryan; Degenek, Souttar, Rowles, Behich; Leckie, Irvine, Mooy, Baccus; Duke, McGree.

🏆👉   Netherlands won the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 defeating USA on Saturday 3 December 2022 at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The Netherlands took the lead in the first half with the double advantage with goals by Memphis Depay and Daley Blind. The USA reopened the match, with an almost fortuitous goal by Haji Wright primed by Christian Pulisic. Inter player Denzel Dumfries then sealed the game, the authentic protagonist of the match, having also provided two assists in the first half. The Netherlands, therefore, overcomes the USA obstacle and is the first team to access the quarterfinals, where they will find the winner between Argentina and Australia.

The Netherlands went unbeaten in all 11 World Cup matches under Louis van Gaal (W8 D3), keeping five clean sheets in the last seven, including the last three in the knockout stage. The only team in World Cup history to have kept four consecutive clean sheets in the knockout stages were Spain, when they lifted the trophy in 2010.

  •  Italian Serie A players called up in this game

✅   Stats before the game: All five of the Netherlands’ meetings with the United States have been in friendly matches: Netherlands won the first four between 1998 and 2010, while the United States prevailed in the most recent one, in 2015. The Netherlands are unbeaten in 19 World Cup matches against non-European nations (W13 D6), since a 3-2 defeat by Brazil in the 1994 quarter-finals. However, two of their six draws in that run have seen them eliminated after penalties (v Brazil in 1998 and v Argentina in 2014). The USA have not won any of their last 11 World Cup matches against European sides (D6 L5), since a 3-2 defeat of Portugal in 2002. Overall, they have won just three of their 23 World Cup games against European sides (D7, 13P), also beating Belgium in 1930 and England in 1950.
