Italian Soccer Serie A blog hosted by Anna Italia congratulates Netherlands for passing to the World Cup  Quarterfinals after defeating Mexico on Sunday 29 June 2014.   Great to see 1 Serie A player AC Milan midfielder Nigel De Jong  playing for Netherlands and also 2 ex Serie A players being decisive in the game, the  ex Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder equalizing the score in the 88th minute and ex AC Milan forward Klaas Jan Huntelaar scoring the winner goal in the 94th minute.

Netherlands: 1 Italian Serie A Player with Netherlands National Football Team:

  • AC Milan midfielder Nigel De Jong, played only the first 9 minutes because he was injured and replaced by defender Bruno Martins Indi.

There are no Serie A players with Mexico National team.

Mexico opened the score in the 48th minute with forward Giovanni dos Santos defeating Netherlands goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen with a left footed shot in the bottom right corner.

Netherlands equalizing in the 88th minute with the ex Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder following a corner conceded by Mexico defender Miguel Layun.  Get this one…  the former city rivals now being decisive for the victory. It is Klaas Jan Huntelaar to provide the headed assist for Sneijer to smack a right footed shot defeating Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa in the bottom left corner.

The winner goal arriving in the 94th minute with forward Klass-Jan Huntelaar converting a penalty.  Imagine, Huntelaar  who had substituted in the 76th minute Van Persie now becoming a hero.  Here is the thing. It is Mexico defender Rafael Marquez to concede the penalty after a foul on forward Arjen Robben.  Taking the penalty spot is Huntelaar and in the agonizing final minute when it was “you are in or you are out”…  and there you go, Huntelaar defeating goalkeeper  Guillermo Ochoa with a right footed shot in the bottom left corner!

Referee whistles the end of the game and the rest now is history……

Good morning my friends.  Wake up, prepare your breakfast, snack or lunch… I am up and surviving an agonizing Brazil – Chile Round of 16 game seeing finally Brazil made it to the Quarterfinal, but not showing a convincing victory having played extra time and defining the passing in penalties.    I have been following the news and praises are for the ex Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar having saved Brazil from an upset.

Headlines also praising, and I totally agree, Colombia with James Rodriguez giving  total show by scoring 2 goals and convincing victory eliminating Uruguay!

As for Serie A transfer market, the new trend is  forward Mario Balotelli with the possible passing from Milan to Juventus!!!!  Conflicts arriving because Juventus fans are split some wanting him, but others not.

Colombia passing to the World Cup Quarterfinals after defeating Uruguay.   Italian Soccer Serie A blog hosted by Anna Italia congratulates the 10 Italian Serie A players called up by their respective national football teams in the World Cup Round of 16 game, Colombia vs Uruguay  on Saturday 28 June 2014.  Colombia team captain is Atalanta defender Mario Yepes.  Colombia will play the Quarterfinals against Brazil on July 4 at the Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza.

It is Colombia to open the score in the 28th minute.  Midfielder James Rodriguez taking time to accommodate the ball on his chest  before his left footed shot defeating Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera in the top left corner.  The headed assist by midfielder Abel Aguilar.

Second goal of the match is   by James Rodriguez in the 50th minute with a right footed shot defeating goalkeeper Fernando Muslera in the center.. Great combo assist started by Gutierrez to Armero and than to Juan Cuadrado for the final assist to James scoring his 5th goal in this World Cup.

First yellow card of the match in the 17th minute to Chile midfielder Eugenio Mena for a handball.

Brazil opening the score in the 18th minute following a corner.  It is defender David Luiz to smack the net defeating Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo in the far post.  The assist by Neymar.  Originally, it looks like an own goal by Chile defender Gonzalo Jara, but FIFA listed the goal as scored by David.

Chile equalizing in the 32nd minute with the goal by Alexis Sanchez with a right footed shot defeating goalkeeper Julio Cesar in the bottom left corner.

In the 40th minute for a yellow card to Chile defender Francisco Silva after a foul on Brazil forward Neymar.

Chile pressing Brazil in the 42nd minute challenging goalkeeper Julio Cesar to save the left footed shot by Charles Aranguiz in the bottom right corner with assist by defender Mauricio Isla.

Serie A time!  In the 87th minute, Chile replacing (Juventus) midfielder Arturo Vidal with (Cagliari) forward Mauricio Pinilla.

We are going to extra time while Brazil fans raising their chants in the stadium with a loud roar to support the squad.

In the 92nd minute, desperation now a key factor.  Brazil struggling and Neymar seeming to be battling alone but his right footed shot is blocked.

First extra time over, we are going to the second extra time….. what a disappointment.  Brazil suffering while Chile gaining momentum unafraid of the so-called favorites.

In the 105th minute, Brazil replacing midfielder Oscar with midfielder Willian

Chile with the last substitution in the 107th minute for injury.  Defender Gary Medel replaced by defender Jose   Rojas.

What a chance!!!  Mamma mia, hello,hello, hello, Mauricio Pinilla hitting the bar  in the 120th minute!!!

We are going to penalties…..

Chile. Mauricio Pinilla failed to convert his right footed shot penalty saved by goalkeeper Julio Cesar in the center.
