What a thrilling encounter! Cagliari triumphed over Lecce in a spectacular fashion during Serie A Week 21 on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari, Italy. Cagliari’s performance was nothing short of a knockout, as they secured three vital points in their quest for safety. Lecce initially took the lead with a goal from Pierotti in the 42nd minute, but they seemed to fade in the second half. Cagliari made a dramatic comeback, with Gaetano equalizing in the 60th minute, followed by Luperto’s goal just five minutes later. Zortea completed a hat-trick with his strike in the 80th minute, and Obert added another in the 83rd minute. Lecce ended the match with ten players after Rebic received a red card in the 73rd minute.
Looking ahead, Cagliari will be playing away against Torino, while Lecce will take on Inter at home.
Lecce gained the upper hand in the 42nd minute when Santiago Pierotti found the net with a left-footed strike into the bottom left corner. The play started with a cross from Morente that was deflected by Zappa, allowing Pierotti to come in from behind and score with a precise angled shot from inside the box.

✅ Stats before the game.
Lecce has not lost in their last six Serie A encounters with Cagliari, boasting two wins and four draws. The only time the Salento team has had a longer unbeaten streak in the top division was against Siena from 2004 to 2009, where they went seven matches without a loss. Following their 1-0 victory in the first leg on August 31, Lecce has the chance to achieve a double over Cagliari this season for the first time in Serie A history.
On the other hand, Cagliari has been strong at home against Lecce, remaining unbeaten in nine out of ten home matches (five wins and four draws), with the last two ending in draws. The last time Lecce managed to win away against Cagliari in this league was back on February 26, 2012, when they triumphed 2-1 at Sant’Elia under coach Serse Cosmi.
Recently, Cagliari has struggled at Unipol Domus, losing their last two league matches without scoring. The last time they faced three consecutive home defeats in a single Serie A season was in March-April 2022. If they fail to score in their next home game, it would mark the first time since November-December 2012 that they have gone three home matches without a goal in the top flight.
