La Lazio soffre contro la Fiorentina, ma al termine di una gara combattuta fino all'ultimo si aggiudica 3 punti preziosi che le permettono di restare in scia alla capolista Juventus. La Fiorentina, trascinata da Ribery, ha offerto una grande prestazione, cedendo il passo solamente nel finale di gara. Il francese ha sbloccato la partita al 25' con una serpentina in mezzo a tre difensori laziali prima di prendere il tempo anche al portiere con un destro preciso a fil di palo. Un capolavoro che, a stadio pieno, avrebbe fatto alzare in piedi per l'applauso anche qualche tifoso avversario. Per tutto il primo tempo la squadra di Inzaghi ha fatto fatica a creare occasioni da gol, ed anche nella ripresa gli ospiti sono andati vicino al raddoppio, con Castrovilli fermato da Strakosha e con la traversa di Ghezzal. Al 67' gira il match, col rigore procurato da Caicedo e trasformato dal capocannoniere Immobile. Da quel momento la Lazio ci crede e spinge, anche se non in maniera lucida. All'83', con un'azione confusa al limite dell'area, spunta il corridoio per il destro di Luis Alberto che riscatta la sua prestazione fin lì opaca e rianima i suoi dopo la sconfitta di Bergamo. Un altro stop per i laziali, al di là della classifica, avrebbe sicuramente inciso sul morale. Restano invece 4 i punti di distacco tra le prime due, che da qui allo scontro diretto avranno tre avversarie identiche: Torino, Milan e Sassuolo. La Serie A TIM entra nel vivo e non mancheranno emozioni in testa e in coda alla classifica.

BRESCIA RIPRESO SUL 2 – 2 DAL GENOA

Al Rigamonti termina in pareggio lo scontro diretto tra Brescia e Genoa. Il 2 – 2 finale permette alla formazione di Lopez di raggiungere la Spal a 18 punti, mentre quella di Nicola si stacca dal Lecce terzultimo di una lunghezza. Per entrambe la situazione resta difficile perchè il punto guadagnato oggi non cambia granchè la classifica. 

Il Brescia parte forte e si trova in doppio vantaggio già al 13'. Apre al 10' Donnarumma con un destro che lascia poco scampo a Perin, raddoppia con un tocco sotto porta Semprini dopo soli 3'. Gli ospiti accorciano le distanze poco prima dell'intervallo con un rigore trasformato da Iago Falque. Nel secondo tempo il Genoa appare più determinato e dopo aver sfiorato il pareggio con una conclusione di Pinamonti che lambisce il palo, lo trova con lo stesso centravanti che si fa trovare pronto dagli undici metri per il secondo rigore di giornata concesso al 69'. Nel finale un'occasione per parte, ma il risultato non cambia e si chiude sul 2 – 2.

President Rocco Commisso has released a statement from the USA regarding Fiorentina’s positive performance last night.

“There was one player that was head and shoulders above the rest,” said Commisso. “He was wearing a Viola jersey and had the No.7 on his back – he really entertained me and I think that goes for all lovers of good football too. Given his age and the fact that he’s returning for a longue ingiuries to fitness, Franck Ribery was phenomenal. He’s an example for everybody.

“It was a good team performance also. Having seen the images and heard and read the reactions from all over the world on television, websites and social media, where there has been a lot of criticism of the refereeing decisions in the match, I’m left wondering why – after multiple incidents affecting not just Fiorentina but many other teams too – the decision still hasn’t been made for technology, and specifically VAR, to be deployed in a more significant and useful way.

“As I made clear several months ago, I’m still in favour of teams being given the possibility to appeal to match officials for use of VAR, based on a system with specific rules. That would remove all doubts for everybody and give us the certainty that everything is being assessed as well as possible. I will continue to be the first one to speak up on these issues out of respect principally for Fiorentina and the Viola faithful and also for the italian football in general.

“The good news is that the team looked to have progressed, so I want to congratulate the players. Now our attention turns to Wednesday’s game against Sassuolo. I hope that everybody does their job as well as possible, in order to ensure that football is as fair a sport as possible.”

Iachini: "We’re disappointed because we should have wrapped it up"

Beppe Iachini confirmed the feeling of disappointment around the Fiorentina camp as he spoke to the media following the Viola’s 2-1 defeat to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Saturday night.

“We’re very disappointed because the team did well in terms of the way it moved the ball and built the play,” he said after the Week 28 Serie A clash. “Our mentality was about attacking and trying to score goals. We’re working on that and we need to improve the way we take our chances, because that’s an important aspect.”

Fiorentina were left aggrieved after the game swung on a disputed Lazio penalty midway through the second half, but Iachini was keen to highlight his team’s impressive performance rather than dwelling on the controversy.
“I prefer not to speak about the refereeing decisions,” said the Viola coach. “I don’t want to pass judgement on those things because they’re things that happen on the pitch. Unfortunately they went against us this time in terms of the result, given what the team produced. I prefer to speak about the team and its performance – we showed personality and took the game to them. We played to win, to score goals. We weren’t satisfied with 1-0 – we wanted to score the second goal. We showed the right mentality but we weren’t able to go 2-0 or 2-1 up – that meant the game was always in the balance and Lazio did well to capitalise on the two chances they had. That ended up penalising us much more than the lads’ performance deserved.”
Iachini was determined to take the positives, stressing that on another day Fiorentina might have got the three points at the Olimpico.
“All we were lacking was a bit of luck and a bit more of a clinical streak,” he said. “As I’ve said, had we gone 2-0 up, the match would have been even more difficult for Lazio. They’re a quality side who have lots of shots on goal and have scored many goals this season, but we gave them very few chances today. It would have been difficult to do more. Sadly they were able to capitalise on a loose ball and a penalty. We’re disappointed but let’s look to the future because that’s the way we want to play.”
There was also praise from Iachini for Franck Ribery, who capped an eye-catching performance with a stunning solo effort in the first half.
“Ribery is an important player for us,” he said. “I’ve never been able to have him available but he’s come back in and had trained well and prepared properly. He’ll certainly give us a boost during the run-in. Obviously he can’t always manage 90 minutes, but I hate bringing him off because he’s the type of player you always want to have on the pitch. His personality and the quality he brings the team in terms of the play are massive.”
