Atalanta humiliated Sturm Graz in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy.  Depending on the outcomes of tonight and tomorrow’s matches, Atalanta has momentarily climbed to third in the League Phase standings with 14 points. This means Gasperini’s squad still has a chance to secure a spot in the top eight, which would help them steer clear of the playoffs, a stage they are already mathematically set to enter. An error by Aiwu led to Samardzic receiving the ball; he was just outside the area and then laid it off to Zappacosta. Zappacosta, wearing number 77, sent a pass back to Retegui, who simply tapped in the opening goal.
