Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AS Roma, 12th position with 13 points and a negative goal difference of -3
Napoli, 3rd position with 26 points and a positive goal difference of +10

Mission accomplished! Napoli achieved their goal by securing a victory in Serie A Week 13 against AS Roma on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples, Italy. This crucial home win propels Napoli back to the top of the standings, leading Serie A with 29 points. The competition for the Scudetto remains fierce, with Atalanta, Inter, and Fiorentina closely trailing at 28 points each.

The Azzurri dominated the match with 63% possession, showcasing a more energetic performance. The visiting team, under Ranieri’s leadership for the first time, struggled to find their footing and primarily focused on defense, ultimately falling to Napoli. Lukaku’s goal in the 54th minute, beautifully assisted by Di Lorenzo, secured the win for Antonio Conte’s side.

In the upcoming round of the league, Napoli will take on Torino, while Roma will go up against Atalanta.

Stats remain the same. Last season, Roma managed to stay unbeaten in both encounters with Napoli, winning 2-0 at the Olimpico in December 2023 and drawing 2-2 at the Maradona in April. This marks their longest unbeaten streak against Napoli in Serie A since the 2015-2016 season, where they went four matches without a loss (3 wins, 1 draw). On the other hand, Napoli has not lost at home to Roma in their last six league meetings (3 wins, 3 draws), with Roma’s last away victory against them dating back to March 3, 2018, when they won 4-2 under coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

Romelu Lukaku found the back of the net with a close-range left-footed shot right down the middle. Giovanni Di Lorenzo provided the assist. It was a fantastic setup by the ever-reliable Kvaratskhelia, who delivered a perfect pass to Di Lorenzo. The winger made his move with impeccable timing, setting up Lukaku for an easy finish into an open net. It was a memorable moment for Lukaku as he scored against his former team, Roma!

✅  Stats before the game.

After a streak of 21 consecutive home wins in Serie A, Antonio Conte lost his last home match in the league (0-3 against Atalanta), only once in his career has the current Napoli coach recorded two consecutive home defeats in the tournament: in November 2009 when he was in charge of Atalanta (against Juventus and Roma).

Roma have won only three of their 12 games in this championship, in which they have also collected five defeats (four draws complete the streak): since the beginning of the 1980s, in the first 13 games played in Serie A, the Giallorossi have always obtained at least four successes and only twice (in 2011/12 and 2008/09) have they lost six matches.

Roma have lost four of their last five league games (W1), recording two defeats in the two most recent (against Hellas Verona and Bologna): the Giallorossi have not recorded three defeats in a row in Serie A since the period between June and July 2020, with Paulo Fonseca on the bench in that case, with the third defeat of that series coming at Napoli (2-1 for the Neapolitan team).

Roma have not won any of their last nine league away games (D5, L4) and have not recorded a longer streak without away wins in Serie A since the period between December 1999 and May 2000 (11 in that case). More specifically, the Giallorossi have earned four points in six away games in the current championship, only Lecce (one), Venezia (two) and Hellas Verona (three) have done worse. Among Roma’s coaches in history, only Luciano Spalletti (59%) and Rudi Garcia (57%) have recorded a higher win percentage than Claudio Ranieri (56%) in Serie A (min. 2 matches).

Player Stats

Romelu Lukaku has been involved in four goals in five league matches against Roma (three goals and one assist). The Belgian is a former player in the match and last season he was one of only two Serie A players to score at least 20 goals in all competitions: 21 goals for him in 47 matches with the Giallorossi, together with Lautaro Martínez (27).

Stephan El Shaarawy has scored five goals against Napoli in the league, all away; only Pietro Paolo Virdis (seven), Giuseppe Signori and Carlo Reguzzoni (both six) have scored more away goals against the Neapolitans in the history of Serie A.

Since his arrival in the capital (from 2022/23), with Paulo Dybala on the pitch, Roma have won 48% of their matches in Serie A (30/62), earning 1.7 points on average, while without the Joya the percentage of successes of the Giallorossi drops to 35% (9/26), obtaining 1.3 points on average.
