Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lecce, 16th position with 13 points and a negative goal difference of -15
AS Roma, 14th position with 13 points and a negative goal difference of -6

It was a fantastic day for the Giallorossi! AS Roma triumphed in Serie A Week 15 on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. Roma delivered a stunning performance, defeating Lecce with a final score of 4-1. Saelemaekers opened the scoring in the 13th minute, but Krstovic leveled the match with a penalty in the 40th minute.

The team has an impressive record against Lecce, remaining unbeaten in 34 out of their last 36 encounters in Serie A, with 24 wins and 10 draws. Among all teams Roma has faced at least 10 times in the top division, Lecce has the fewest victories against them.

The second half saw Roma strike back with goals from Mancini in the 59th minute and Pisilli in the 66th minute. Koné added another goal in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, Gaspar sustained an injury during the match.

In the upcoming round, Roma will head to Como for their next match, while Lecce will take on Monza at home.

Roma got on the scoreboard first in the 13th minute when Alexis Saelemaekers found the net with a left-footed shot aimed at the bottom right corner. The setup came from Stephan El Shaarawy, who cleverly assisted Saelemaekers. With a well-placed but not overly powerful shot, Saelemaekers managed to outsmart Falcone, who was rushing out from the goal.

Lecce brought the score to 1-1 in the 40th minute when Nikola Krstovic successfully converted a penalty with a powerful right-footed shot into the top right corner. The penalty was awarded after Saud Abdulhamid committed a foul in the box during a clash with Coulibaly, prompting Referee Chiffi to signal for the penalty.

✅   Stats before the game:

After suffering their first home defeat to Lecce on April 20, 1986, Roma has gone on to remain unbeaten in the next 17 matches at home, securing 15 wins and 2 draws, including a remarkable streak of seven consecutive victories. This marks Roma’s longest ongoing home winning streak in Serie A.

This season, Roma has managed to gather a maximum of 13 points from their first 14 Serie A games, a feat they have only achieved twice before in their history, specifically in the 1978/79 season (13 points) and the 1950/51 season (10 points). If they do not win this match, it would result in their second-worst performance after 15 matches, matching the 10 points from the 1950/51 season.

Roma has faced a tough time lately, losing six out of their last seven league matches, with only one win to show for it. They’ve dropped all four of their most recent games, and the last time they suffered five straight defeats in Serie A was back in February to March 1951.

On the other hand, Lecce has managed to score in their last three Serie A matches, matching their total from the previous 14 games where they only found the net on three occasions, failing to score 11 times. Interestingly, Lecce has neither conceded nor scored more than one goal in their last six matches in the league.

After a long stretch of seven away matches in Serie A without finding the net, Lecce finally scored in their latest game against Venezia, where they also managed to keep a clean sheet. The Apulians haven’t achieved back-to-back clean sheets on the road in this competition since the period from November 2022 to January 2023. Interestingly, Roma and Lecce are the only teams in this league that have yet to score in the first 15 minutes of play.

Player Stats

Paulo Dybala has been quite effective against Lecce, scoring four goals in six Serie A matches, averaging a goal every 101 minutes. His best averages come against Monza (one goal every 47 minutes) and Benevento (one every 89 minutes).

Ante Rebic, who has scored twice against Roma in Serie A while playing for Milan, found the net last matchday against Juventus. However, the 1993-born player hasn’t scored in two consecutive league appearances since May 2021.
