AS Roma, 10th position with 20 points and a positive goal difference of +0

The Derby della Capitale has once again seen AS Roma take the upper hand, claiming the bragging rights in Rome! On Sunday, January 5, 2025, Roma secured a victory over Lazio during Serie A Week 19 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium. This win marked a significant turnaround for Roma, who had been struggling with three matches without a win or a goal (1 draw, 2 losses) prior to this match.

In addition, the Giallorossi have impressively kept a clean sheet in their last two encounters with the Biancocelesti in this league. This achievement also marks the first time since 1967 that they have recorded three consecutive clean sheets against Lazio.

The action unfolded in the first half, with Roma taking the lead thanks to goals from Captain Lorenzo Pellegrini and Saelemakers, followed by a second half focused on defense. Meanwhile, Lazio struggled to find their footing and couldn’t mount a comeback. The white and blues fell short, while the yellow and reds celebrated their resurgence. Looking ahead, Lazio will take on Como in their next match, while Roma is set to face Bologna.

The action …

Roma struck first in the 10th minute with a fantastic goal from Lorenzo Pellegrini! The Giallorossi are in the lead after Pellegrini delivered a stunning shot. The number 7 skillfully gathered the ball at the edge of the box and curled it beautifully past the helpless goalkeeper, Ivan Provedel.

What a whirlwind for Lazio! The Roman gladiators struck again in the 18th minute with a goal from Alexis Saelemakers! It was an incredible play by Roma, featuring Dovbyk and Dybala near the box. Dybala set up Saelemakers, who charged in and took a shot with his right foot. Provedel made the initial save, but the Belgian was quick to pounce on the rebound and found the back of the net, extending their lead. Ouch! Roma fans are definitely celebrating!

Stats before the game

Roma triumphed in the latest Derby della Capitale against Lazio in Serie A, breaking a streak of three matches without a win or a goal (1 draw, 2 losses). Additionally, the Giallorossi have managed to keep a clean sheet in their last two encounters with the Biancocelesti, and they have the chance to achieve three consecutive clean sheets against this rival for the first time since 1967.

On the other hand, Lazio has struggled to score more than one goal in their last seven Serie A away matches against Roma, with a total of just four goals. Their last multi-goal game was on April 30, 2017, when they won 3-1 under Simone Inzaghi.

For the first time in the history of Serie A, Roma (20) and Lazio (35) will face each other with a points difference in favor of the Biancocelesti of +15 at the start of the day; the largest gap of this type was +14, recorded in April 1999 and November 2008.

Roma and Lazio will face each other in their first Serie A match played in a calendar year for the third time in the competition, after 1940 (1-0 win for the Giallorossi) and 2005 (3-1 win for the Biancocelesti).

Roma have remained unbeaten in three of their last four Serie A matches, thanks to two wins and a draw; both of these successes have come at home with at least four goals scored (4-1 against Lecce and 5-0 against Parma).

Lazio have recorded 11 wins in this championship (D2 L5) and only four times in their entire history have they recorded more wins in the first 19 games of a Serie A season: in 1973/74 (12), in 2012/13 (12), in 2017/18 (12) and in 2019/20 (14).
